Created your own RPG

I hear a lot about people who create their own RPG games.

I've even seen where people do it on forums and websites.

Have any of you ever done this? How would one even start to do it?

I would study the battle systems in already-made RPGs and then see what I like about them. Then build from scratch and be as minimalist or maximalist as possible.

I've played with RPG maker, didn't do much with it. My friends thought about making one but we didn't get far either.

I made a joke one for a forum I was on 15 years ago. Used RPG Maker VX? and the default assets. Twas fun.

I’ve played with newer RPG Makers and had fun, but now it’s a time commitment and I need to not use the default assets that I don’t have talent or time for.

RP forum? Those were fun back in the day but hardly popular anymore.
