There is a rumour and hope going around the gaming community that the white panels of the PlayStation 5 will be replaceable. This would allow us to pick colours that we like for our console. Do you guys think this is possible?
 
Would be very awesome if true, give Sony that little edge to stand out.
 
It would make my decision to get one at launch a lot easier as well because I'm not a huge fan of the white panels. I'm still hoping for some news on that because a fully black console would look awesome
 
This would be very cool, allows users to have options and whatnot.
 
Exactly. Options are always great. And it also gives them an extra bonus of charging us for special panels and making more money that way. Instead of trying to sell expensive redesigns of consoles to a few people, they can sell cheaper panels to a larger group of people.
 
But at extra cost does it say?
 
Well, it's not even confirmed so we have no idea. But I would say something like $20-30 for something special would be a good deal. Cheaper than having to spend $400+ to get a new console for a specific design.
 
It would be cool if it is possible to replace the curve panels with flat panels, so it look more rectangular for people who prefer a rectangle design like the PS4.

I guess if we can replace the panels, someone out there will start making custom designs as well.

Some people may also add custom features built into the panels like a LCD screen, or a cooling fan for PS5 owners who live in the dessert and hotter countries.

I feel eventually there would be someone who make a custom PS5 laptop like previous generation game consoles where someone made a custom PS4 laptop.
 
I don't think a cooling fan would be required since the PS5 has been made extra-large to ensure it doesn't heat up.
 
I agree a cooling fan won't be neccessary for most PS5 users because of the large size.

A few PS5 users may want an extra cooling fan if they put their PS5 near a home room heater which can make the PS5 more hot.

Some people may put a PS5 in a small room where their home heater room location is the only empty place for their TV and PS5.
 
I am not keen on PS5's white panels. Thus, I will be changing them. I wonder what type of marketing focus group Sony used to come up with their PS5 design. I dont think PS5 design represents a high percentage of future buyers' style. (I might be wrong or too old.)

My prediction is that they purposefully went for a brave and different design because they knew gamers could easily change the white panels if they didn't like it. The design certainly got people talking
 
It would be cool to have metal changeable panels, and make custom panels with extra legs at the bottom of the panel to make the PS5 less likely to tip over in the vertical position.
 
Maybe a large sticker/skin or snap-on shell/case which cover the top of the panel would be good enough for most users who want to customize the look of the PS5.

There may not be many buyers for custom panels if many a 3rd-party company sell an affordable large sticker or case for sticking on the PS5 original panels.
