Cyberpunk 2077

Read from dualshockers and bloomberg that they lost $1 billion due to the bad launch:

A report released by Bloomberg yesterday found that the game’s glitches and rocky launch have cost the founders of CD Projekt Red over $1 billion. Over the course of the past week, the company’s stock has plummeted, although not to record lows. Due to Cyberpunk 2077‘s numerous issues, the developer has provided an apology stating that it did not pay enough attention to the game’s performance on PS4 and Xbox One. It went on to recommend that players refund the game if they are not pleased with it.

The Bloomberg report also notes the stain that has now formed on CD Projekt Red’s reputation. The company, which has been celebrated for The Witcher franchise of games, now finds a lack of public trust. With its previous franchise, CD Projekt Red established itself as a developer of high-quality games and was adored for such. Now, public opinion on the company, which has been caught in lies regarding Cyberpunk 2077‘s performance, has flipped. It’s not clear what CD Projekt Red can do to recover its public face.

Sony has removed Cyberpunk 2077 from their PSN store until further notice.

Sony must have been really pissed off when they pushed the refunds onto them without consulting them. I wonder what Microsoft will do

Yeah, it's not great for the developers who I'm sure will now need to suffer again and work extremely hard to get some patches out quickly.

Read another issue from dualshockers:

It turns out that Cyberpunk 2077 save files will corrupt and become unrecoverable if they reach 8MB in size. The save file news comes from the GOG.com Support Center, which details the issue and a possible way around it:

Unfortunately the save is damaged and can’t be recovered.
Please use an older save file to continue playing and try to keep a lower amount of items and crafting materials.
If you have used the item duplication glitch, please load a save file not affected by it.
The save file size limit might be increased in one of the future patches, but the corrupted files will remain that way.

Read a lawsuit by the investors from kotaku:

Yesterday, the Manhattan-based Rosen Law Firm filed suit in California’s Central District “on behalf of persons or entities who purchased or otherwise acquired publicly traded CD Projekt Red securities between January 16, 2020, and December 17, 2020.” Translated: stockholders, specifically those who picked up stock in the past year or so.

(1) Cyberpunk 2077 was virtually unplayable on the current-generation Xbox or Playstation systems due to an enormous number of bugs; (2) as a result, Sony would remove Cyberpunk 2077 from the Playstation store, and Sony, Microsoft and CD Projekt would be forced to offer full refunds for the game; (3) consequently, CD Projekt would suffer reputational and pecuniary harm; and (4) as a result, defendants’ statements about its business, operations, and prospects, were materially false and misleading and/or lacked a reasonable basis at all relevant times. When the true details entered the market, the lawsuit claims that investors suffered damages.

now that is major big oopff.

Read some stuff from Bloomberg and Dualshockers:

When Cyberpunk 2077 was announced in 2012 with a trailer, “the company was then still mainly focused on its last title and full development didn’t start until late 2016, employees said. That was when CD Projekt essentially hit the reset button, according to people familiar with the project.”

Not to mention that the E3 2018 demo, which showed off many of the game’s promised features and impressed both journalists and the general audience, was entirely faked. According to the article: “CD Projekt hadn’t yet finalized and coded the underlying gameplay systems, which is why so many features, such as car ambushes, were missing from the final product. Developers said they felt like the demo was a waste of months that should have gone toward making the game.”

Plenty of other problems arose during development such as studio head Adam Badowski clashing with top The Witcher 3 devs on the game’s direction and causes the latter’s depatures, cultural and language barriers caused by those who only spoke English versus Polish, not hiring enough people for the job, and in one example devs had to make their own shaders on the fly because the tools weren’t available to them otherwise.

Awful response. They need to copy the No Man's Sky devs and just shut up for a little bit of time. Focus on the game and make it what they wanted it to be instead of arguing with people and pretending they didn't lie.
