Anyone ever watched "death note"? It's really good. It's an old-ish, completed anime/manga that centers around "light" (the protagonaist, if u could call him that) who stumbles upon a "death note" book used by shinigamis (death god) to bring death upon who's name is written in the book. It has a well thought plot tbh. It sounds creepy (a bit creepy, actually) but it's entertaining. You guys should give it a try. They even made a movie adaption for it back in 2006.

I loved watching Death Note. The plot and character development was really good in my opinion. But if you do watch Death Note, use subbed instead of dubbed. Light was really smart in his strategic planning of being Kira.

You call Death Note "old"?! I'm not sure what planet you are living on, but it's not old at all compared to a lot of great anime out there. There are anime up to 100 years old out there... If Death Note is old, those 100 year old ones are like, pre-big bang or something. It aired somewhere between 2006 and 2007. That's pretty new...

I'm not very fond of the show myself, mostly because the ending/second half of the show sucks a lot. I really enjoyed watching the first half, for obvious reasons, but the closer it came to the ending, the more I started to dislike the show. I heard the manga has a better ending, but I feel like that the anime ending ruined everything related to Death Note for me...

I'm not a huge fan of L, but everyone else seems to like that guy quite a lot.

Seen Death Note, watched the live action movies, read the manga. Brilliant storyline.
It does get a bit dark when Light gets all well-intentioned extremist, but that's villain protagonists for you. Protagonist simply means the main character from whose point of view we see most of the story. It doesn't always mean hero and antagonist doesn't always mean villain, simply the one who goes against the protagonist.
I used to be a huge fan of Death Note but then I got less interested as time went on. Now I'm into other things. Still, it's nice to look back on things I used to like and revisit them once in a while. Who knows? I could fall in love with it all over again, or my tastes could have changed.

It's the anime that got me into anime.

When L died and a couple of episodes after his death, I sort of lost a tiny bit of interest. The new L guy who hated the "other new L guy (kid)" is the reason.

I love Death Note. I've watched it twice, and after a year or two I'm re-watching it along with a friend. It's a suspenseful and intelligent anime. I love the interactions between the characters. Also, I love both the first half and the last half of the anime. Crazy, right? I also just love how they can almost make you root for the 'villain'. I disagree with what Light does and I can list the reasons why I think he is wrong, but the fact that we see his story from his point of view makes me cheer for him when he is successful. I love both him and L, but I'm usually cheering for Light just because of the point of view reason.

(Major anime spoilers)
When L died, sure, I liked L a lot but I felt relieved for Light. Also, when Light died, I actually teared up. That is probably one of the reasons why I liked the last half of the anime. If the anime was able to give me so many emotions that I could cry, that is amazing to me. I love when any anime manages to make me emotional.

I absolutely loved this anime, the first scenes where L is trying to find who is Kira and Light trying to find the real name of L had me on the edge of my seat all the time, so much suspense happens in this anime! It was interesting to see everyone being friend of Light without realizing he is a mass murderer, even his own family. This anime is also good because it is different in the sense that the main character is the antagonist.

This is one of those animes I've been meaning to go back to for years now. I loved it when I watches it in 2008ish.

It was absolutely a brilliant anime and the storyline had a touch of dark, creepiness to it. I think the end could have been done better, haven't read the manga though. It was fast paced and the way Light handled things was a treat to watch. Still can't decide if he was the hero or villian :p

It went down as one of the best anime, and for obvious reasons. The concept, the way the action progresses, the incredible psychology and characters (at least L and Light), it's just great. Definitely in my Top 3 anime. Glad to have watched it, and I recommend it to everyone.

I didn't watch the anime too much because I hate reading the manga and then watching the anime (kind of goes along the lines of the book is never as good as the movie). I heard great things about the anime, but I loved the manga. I'm totally into psychological thriller type stories and dark stories. I do recommend it, though!

if there's any anime I recommend to my friends that aren't as well versed in the culture, it's almost always Death Note. Which reminds me, didn't they make a live action movie or show of it? I'll actually have to look that up.

In any case, I felt the earlier half of the series was better than the final. That said, enjoyed the ending though.

I second the topic starter, Death Note is a great show. I was told to watch it a couple years ago and I was instantly hooked. The deductive scenes are amazing, coming from a big fan of Sherlock Holmes.

However, if you like shows with a lot of action, then this probably isn't the one for you. It's mostly talking between the characters and reasoning within one of the main characters' head.

I just recently started reading the manga, and I'm still enjoying the story even though I know what's going to happen.

I do like this anime series, and it's one of the only ones I watched to completion. I didn't feel much like watching the movie after watching the whole series, though, since as far as I know it's pretty much the same story retold in live action, but I did see clips of the movie and I was impressed by the accuracy of the character designs.

I loved Death Note. The first season of the series was excellent and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The second season wasn't as suspenseful as the first, but still gave the anime a kind of good ending. Maybe I just hate the ending because I didn't want it to end.

Didn't watch the anime, but I loved the manga. I'm honestly interested to find out how much they've changed in the adaptation? Feels like a lot of people aren't happy with the second season, although I suspect there's a certain reason for that ( don't feel like writing spoilers right now). I own a volume of the manga and my Death Note necklace came in the post today too haha.
