death note

Watched the Live Action movie for it which has a different ending from the anime/manga. May be worth checking out if you're a huge fan of the series.
I think it's called "Death Note The Last Name." Japanese subtitles of course.

As for the series in general, I'm reminded of how much I enjoyed L, yet couldn't stand Neer or Near.
 
Yes, it's actually my favorite anime, I always loved the idea of two geniuses going against each other in a battle of wits. I think it was a very smart and captivating anime... as some of you said season one was brilliant, the second season however, did suffer a clear decline.
The series as a whole was great and to me L was one of the most interesting characters I've ever seen.
