Kojima says that after making DS2, OD and PHYSINT he will take a look at the situation of Kojima Productions and if he is able to, he will go work on a film.
--------------------------------------------
Read from The Game Business, market research and analytics firm Ampere estimates that Death Stranding 2: On The Beach sold 1.4 million copies by the end of June in one week of availability.
For comparison with other Kojima titles:
DS sold 5m units in 1 year and 4 months (PS4 and PC).
MGSV shipped 5m units in the first month (multi-platform).
MGS4 shipped 3m units in the first 24 hours (PS3 exclusive).
MGS3 shipped 2.38m units (Asia and America only) in a little over a month (PS2 exclusive).
MGS2 sold 1.8m units in 2 weeks in the US, got 1.57m pre-orders in EU and sold 400k units in 24 hours in Japan (PS2 exclusive).
Hopefully he will have enough funds to finish his next Metal gear like game Physint. Death stranding 2 is quite expensive to produce especially with Kojima hiring Hollywood actors for the game. Then he had that 1 hour or so stage and trailer for Death Stranding 2 during the recent 2025 Summer Game Fest that costed millions of dollars. 3.2-3.5 million copies sold needed to at least break even I'd wager. Wonder how much MS paid him to get the game on gamepass. He should have made metal gear like game first instead of making a courier game with a baby (now toddler) and some combat + stealth. Death Stranding never interest me enough to play it. Kojima himself said it before the game will not be appealing to the mass market.
