In all honesty, I'm not even sure what a "metacritic" score is but I also do a fair bit of research myself. I normally read a few reviews or watch the first few episodes of a walkthrough on YouTube, which normally gives me the best idea of if I'll like the game or not. I very rarely purchase a game without doing the research first, unless I find it for extremely cheap in a bargain bin where I normally get the idea of "I might as well buy it for my collection".
Metacritic is a website that gives 'point' reviews for games, movies and other things. I don't look at it myself, but I'll take a look at the gameplay and decide if I want it or not.
Reviews,in my opnion, shouldn't determine weither you should buy it or not because that's THAT person's opnion, not yours. You might LOVE a game IGN doesn't. It's happened to me before. I just buy a game on if it looks fun or not. Platformers are a must for me,since I'm a huge platformer guy.
Anyways,in-topic,yes this has happened to me. When I wanted to get a Vita by trading in the games they had for a deal (trade in some number of games and get it for free) the store I was going to had none of them, and the other store was closed. And it was Monday the next day,so I had to wait even later.
It wasn't fun.
