As most of you would know, Super Paper Mario bent the rules with the series and practically scrapped all turn-based combat, replacing it for real-time action/adventure business. Now, I've just replayed the entire game from the start and I've also played a bit of Paper Mario for N64.

I bought Super Paper Mario with little research, and kind of assumed it would be an RPG, but I assumed wrong and ended up a bit disappointed at first. I kept on playing however, and kind of grew attached to the style.

Now, what about you? Did you despise the change of genre? Did it make the game less enjoyable? Glad that Paper Mario 3DS returns to what it used to be? Vote in poll, discuss here! Heck, tell us why you think Nintendo did this odd change.

Well, lots of people hated it because they wanted another Paper Mario like TTYD or the first. I wanted it too, however I still bought it. The story and game play were awesome! Sure I would've preferred the other kind of Paper Mario, but this was still a pretty fun game.

To be honest I liked Super Paper Mario more because of it. I mean I love RPG's, but they're all the same. This added a twist which made it more fun.

I'm guessing it copped a fair bit of crap because of that in a few reviews, as well? I don't really know, I'm just guessing that, heh.

Also, is it me, or... did dialogue seem slightly uninteresting at parts in Super Paper Mario? TTYD looked like it had lots of fun speech, but with SPM, there was O'Chunks, Mimi and Dimentio to make things a bit funny, with Bowser adding to that at times (Luigi too!).

I've cleared SPM and PM:TTYD, and have not quite finished Paper Mario. Yet.

I didn't quite like the way the series went with the idea, I preferred the turn-based battle system. Sure, it was good not having to wait till your turn to use an item (which can prove lethal in some battles) but there where times when I wish it had been left in. To me it seemed more like a classic Mario platformer except this time you could see how much damage you where doing to your enemy.

I liked the Pixls but I preferred the classic style of learning new attacks, such as gaining a Hammer and never having to switch Pixls or items or anything to use it, it was always there. The turn-based system gave you plenty of time to think about the next move too... Do you attack? Defend? Give it your all with a Star Spirit/Crystal Star? Use an item?...

However I must say that all 3 games had a very interesting storyline. I sure hope that the 3DS Paper Mario also has one of those along with the returning battle system from the first two games.

Bold parts are important.

First bold thing: I swear having that ability made the battles way more easier, I was fighting Super Dimentio and was taking damage left right and centre, but I had 5 70HP restoration items on me, no biggie.

Second bold thing: The Pixls made fights even easier at times, heh. Plus you could just switch them like that, so you could whip out the Barrier before this shot gets to you and dodge it.

i think super paper mario shouldnt have been a paper mario game, also i hated the square look i. e. when the enemies die they make square cloud stuff

Really? I thought it was kinda cool. Although that Mega Star had the longest power-up introduction I've ever seen, so I get where you're coming from; that took the square look too far.

they should have just put the "square look" in one level/world,not nearly all of them.i think it should have looked more like TTYD

Rented it, played it for two days....and didn't play it for the rest of the rental week. I love the look of the game, i didn't like the gameplay. It's too simple and lacked a bit of what makes "paper mario" what it is. It's an ok game, just not my personal favorite. I don't "Hate" it. I just prefer not to play it..

I hated the look, and the gameplay was good, but not compared to TTYD.also i hated the characters in it,there werent very many good characters like in the first 2 and most of them looked blocky or squar, which was horrible, also yoshis didnt even appear in it at all and if you flipped to 3d,there werent very many enemies.another thing that bothered me was there were no partners(pixls dont really count on my standards).a good thing was playing as mario, luigi, peach, and bowser though.though all of them should have been able to flip to 3d.not very many things from the 1st 2 games were there either, although i liked that it had clubbas and spanias.the minigames were fun, except the card one.the story was ok,but not as good as the last, they were also missing comedy.it wasnt funny like TTYD

overall i give it a 67/100 with TTYD a 100/100 and paper mari 1 96/100
