Digital only future of gaming

Imagine a future where you no longer have to buy games from the store.

It's all digital.

Do you hope for this future in gaming? Why would you not want it?

There was a rumor a few years ago that I think it was either the PS4 or PS5 that was going to be digital only and there would be no 2 console concept with one for discs. Eventually we're going to go the PC route and have an all digital console because disc production would have gone by the wayside.

I wouldn't want an all digital future in games because I like that I can earn back some or all of my money I soent on a game by selling my used games to a used video games store or auction and marketplace website like eBay.

I can also giveaway or share my physical games with other people, and not needing to spend more money on gifts and charity donation if I giveaway my old games which I bought many years ago.

There is always a chance that my internet is down for hours to days where I can't buy/download digital games, so going into a store to buy physical games is my only game buying option to buy games if my internet is down for an extended amount of time, or if my game consoles or modem or routers wifi and wired network adapter are broken.

Once games go all digital, I'm done with modern gaming aside from playing games in my favorite franchises. I prefer physical, I only have a Series S because it was cheaper and I wanted to experience playing Sonic Unleashed on the console since it plays well. I kept my Xbox One S to play physical games.

Hopefully, there will still be physical games for many years to come.

I feel some poorer people may mainly play paid games when a library, charity, friend or family member let them borrow their physical games, or give them physical games as gifts, or sell their used games for a very low price to give their friend or customer a good deal on their used games.

Digital sales exist. Also, if they’re that poor, owning a game console is the least of their worries.

I think you'd be okay there.

There is always going to be that retro gaming addiction out there. Older people like me love those old games we grew up playing. :)
