Do people really care too much about genres?

I feel like that is the case, most of the time
Not many would want to try anything from some other genre that they are not fond of. What do you all think?

I think people like watching anime genres which they are familiar and comfortable to view at home with their friends and family in the same room because the familiar genre like popular action anime like Dragonball does not contain human nudity and overly violent scenes,
