I always finish what I have on my plate because my parents got pissed off if we wasted food growing up, so I could in a habit of eating everything that i put on my plate.
Only if the food is good, I can't finish a bad plate, and if it can't be fixed with salt, pepper or garlic, then it was probably never good in the first place.
I don't often have to worry as much about this because I only go to a person's house to eat if I know they can cook and are clean.. and if on the off chance that I had never been to someone's house before and they cooked, then I will fix myself a small plate and go from there and if it isn't good then I will toss it when the time is right.
When I was young, that was the thing. We had to finish our plate because there were starving kids in Ethiopia. It never made sense. If I finished my plate & wasn't hungry, that's not Self-Care & is gluttony. & it's not like we could put it in a container & ship it off to them.
My parents would always be expecting me and my brothers to finish what was on our plates, this was something I always did but in some cases, it meant eating more than I felt I could and that was never good.
I tend to now portion for the amount I know I will eat and I never make my kids finish their plate if they are genuinely full.
Yes I do, but then again, I also know the size of my stomach, and I cook my meals based on how actually hungry I am. I also usually make enough dinner to have one extra portion for lunch the next day.
Used not to when I was kid, but now I do finish up my meals and make sure to clean it off plate even. Money is well spent when you get to eat everything that is on the plate.
