Do you actually buy the near rip-off magikarp from the guy in the pokemon center at route 4/marvelous bridge? I have a few times, but never really evolve it at all, since it's quite hard to get a pokemon that only know tackle as an attacking move to get to level 20 early in the game.

The first time I played it through, I'm pretty sure I did. Took ages to get that up to Level 20, but mostly because I sucked back in the day. I think I almost always bought it to be honest, though I think at one point I didn't because I was just catching as few Pokemon as possible to focus only on the ones that I actually wanted to train.
