uhhhh, what hate is it getting right now?
I honestly haven’t seen anything actually new. It’s all the same criticism for the past 10+ years after people discovered there’s other anime besides battle anime. A lot of it is stuff you see a lot in other entertainment industries when people feel “enlightened” when they discover the non-normie tier stuff for the first time.

it is stale, but what can you really do?
It is a safe genre without much change, but at least that makes it reliable. If you need something to call back on, it’ll always be there.
The only kind of criticism I've heard is that they all kind of follower the same recipe.
Average teens (some of which are rivals) minding their business > Stronger enemies show up > Training/Massive power up arc > Enemies defeated, normally in individual fights (with a bit of friendship is magic)
Rinse and repeat for a few seasons.
I personally don't mind it. They all have their unique traits that make them interesting.
I see that too, but that’s also been the criticism for well over a decade.
