Do you think many young adults used the Internet to make money at some point in their lives?

Yes, I think many young adults used the internet to make money like using Craigslist or eBay to sell their rarely used TV, old video games, and other possessions.

Many young people don't have much money, so earning a few extra dollars by using the internet can be a good way to earn enough to buy stuff they want like video games, electronics, and help pay daily expenses like rent and cell phone bills.

A lot of young people have free and paid websites, YouTube channels, Twitch streams, Fivver gigs, and blogs where they may want to make back some of their money which they spent on buying a domain name, hosting, or cameras if they make online video. Many people also want to earn some money from their work, so they can buy stuff, or equipment like a better computer for making more videos, and not feel like they are working for free.

There are also a few survey and shopping sites like Swagbucks which it is not hard to slowly earn $25 every few month for doing simple tasks like watching video.

yep, plenty of ways to make money online from honest to good ways to rather kinky ways which hopefully no one does the latter.

I don't think it's a common thing. It's not that easy to make money that would be enough for an ordinary young adult. The examples with used socks are ridiculous, and you have to remember they happen VERY rarely.

Spending 1 hour per day or 30 minutes online doing tasks like writing blog posts to sell to a blog or post to your own blog for cash from ads, making videos to sell or upload to a video site which share a percentage of the revenue, or selling stuff like homemade jewelery to make money online can be a useful way to make extra money for stuff, or to pay back bills like student loans, and credit card bills.

There are people like kids, and teens who are too young to work because of local working laws where you need to be 15 years old to work in a store. But, some sites let kids and teens to work online as long as they have their parent's permission, or the kids and teens are using their parents account to make money by selling stuff on eBay, or filling out surveys for cash.
