I think if many people in the future become poorer, buyers maybe more likely buy a more basic cheaper Xbox gaming handheld which is more affordable to buy like Linux and Google Android gaming handhelds which can be bought for cheaper prices than a Nintendo 3DS and Sony PSP vita handheld.

It's exactly how I would feel about it and it's definitely going to make me not think twice on leaving it out.

I think Microsoft's Xbox is paying attention to how much spending money most people have for gaming, and Xbox could more likely release a more affordable gaming handheld if many people no longer can afford a $400 game console, and prefer to save money on gaming by buying a $200 Nintendo Switch Lite and other more affordable gaming devices.

Sony's PS5 sales is beating the hell out of XBOX Series X/S console sales. They can't get in another dogfight with Nintendo.

Microsoft releasing an affordable handheld may convince more people to buy a Xbox Series X/S console in the future if the Xbox handheld had fun games. People who buy the handheld may buy the Xbox Series X/S console after having a good time playing an Xbox handheld console.

How about a handled PS5? Do you think Sony would work on anything like that?

I agree gamers would need their own Wifi and possibly a VPN when playing streamed PS5 games from a console.

I think Sony PS Now cloud game streaming service on a device like a smartphone with 4G or 5G data would be useful for playing Sony games on the road.
 
I don't know why they never attempted this since their competitors have with great success. Are they doing something else that takes the place? Maybe putting in more Apps for cell phones perhaps?
