Hello everyone, as the title says, do you think the PS Vita is a dead console?. I still play a lot in my Vita, but I think the games I play are a little too niche (mainly japanese games). Also the vita is doing great in Japan and it's getting a lot of 3rd party support over there too. Thanks to the lack of region lock I've been able to play a lot of japan exclusives. So do you think the vita is dead in the west?, what do you think went wrong?

Not dead in west. Lots of games coming this fall mostly all visual novels, otome games, RPG, etc. I am saving up for a vita right now. I want norn var 9 commons, amnesia, code:realize and other exclusives like corpse party and ultra despair girls that will be coming out this year.

It's been "dead" as they called it for 3 years running now.

But it's really just the western developers and world that feel that way. When you look at the East, they don't seem to share that sentiment.

Well in terms of sales it may be slow. But it's no more alive or dead than the 3DS in terms of support. The 3DS has literally no western support either.

The only difference is the nintendo handheld sells much better.

Handheld gaming lives and dies off Japan. The only way the Vita dies is if Japan gives up on it. And they haven't. And the fact that the japan games are getting localized is a great thing.

Japan and indie developers seem to disagree. It's just "dead" in the sense of what westerners feel. The Vita got very little support from the west. Which in turn means it can't appeal to the western people but so much. But no matter how "dead" anyone thinks it is, it sure as hell gets use in my house lol.

It's dead when it gets no more games. The idea of "dead" is too exaggerated in the game industry. For as bad as the Wii U is doing, it's still not dead either.

Support could be better sure, but if new games keep coming out for it (which the Vita is getting), then it's not dead. And obviously the development community feels that way if they keep making products for it.

It's only dead if you don't like either indie games or Japanese games, because that's mostly what it's getting. Support in the west is almost non-existant except for indies. Sounds like that doesn't apply to you.

It doesn't apply to me either, plus it's the only system I can play Soul Sacrifice Delta and Freedom Wars on anyway. I don't mind it being a platform almost exclusively for indies and Japanese games. I actually can't wait to play Salt & Sanctuary on it!

I do agree with most of what you guys say, but I also believe that the Vita has received some decent ports as well, like games from the Borderlands series. They certainly make for some familiarly fun gaming on the go, even those epic multiplayer sessions, and I think that is where the beauty of the console lays: the power to turn staples of our gaming mobile.

As long as we get ports that are not shoddy and stay true to their originals, the PS Vita cannot die a true death. But alas, the developers fail to understand that. :(

Agreed. Indie developers absolutely love the Vita, not only for it's specs but because a lot of their games are well received on this handheld. Japanese gamers love their handhelds and the Vita still enjoys significant popularity over there. The Vita isn't going anywhere, it will still be supported in the next couple of years. It's already got a great library of games and those who are fortunate enough to own a Vita - absolutely adore it.

I've never played on the vita, I had a psp back in the day but got bored of that pretty fast. Honestly I think the way forward in handheld gaming is on our phones. No one wants to be carrying around something extra these days.

I've been using my Vita as nothing but a JRPG for years now, and the stream of those games still seems pretty steady. It is alive enough for me I guess.
