Which is the better 2D platformer?

Both came out around the same time in the SNES's lifespan and both ended up being marketed as the major new Nintendo games of the time period (and both outsold Super Metroid).

But which is the better game/games?

Is is Donkey Kong Country 1/2/3, the classic platformer series by Rare, or Yoshi's Island the other classic platformer at the time? Which game's graphics/music/stuff worked better?

Yoshi's Island. I've only played the one for the DS, but it basically the same game, but only using different characters. Besides I can't stand Donkey Kong Country or any of the sequels. Only DK64, which in Japan is DKC, but whatever. I don't like the 2D DK games that much. Also I don't think that the graphics in DKC are as good as people say. They don't impress me that much.

I'm a Donkey Kong man myself. Mostly because to be honest, I've never really done much with Yoshi's Island. I've played it, but haven't come back to it as often as the ol' ape himself.

My reasons for this are probably just... eh, good tunes, nice looking game, and some great challenges. Not to say Yoshi's Island didn't have challenges itself, but those tough spots seemed a bit "too tough". If that makes sense. Like, precision perfect skill. I don't mind that sort of difficulty being included (like the Time Attacks in DKCR), but if it's forced down your throat, then no thanks. (At least I remember this one level in Yoshi's Island being ridiculous with the timing of jumps).

Timing with Jumps? Um... it could be anything but... it's not this one is it?

Also just for lulz, the longest level in Super Mario Advance 3 (which is only on that game, and not the original SNES game):

It's so long that even a Tool-Assisted Speedrun (TAS) is almost 10 minutes.

Yoshi's Island DS is the SEQUEL to Yoshi's Island. NOT the same game. They have COMPLETELY different levels, different bosses, different soundtrack... just similar graphical style.... but even then, also different.

Donkey Kong 64 is known in Japan as Donkey Kong 64. Again, stop with the stupid "I know everything"

"The 3DS is just a DS with 3D"
"Donkey Kong 64 is DKC in Japan"
"Yoshi's Island DS is the same as Yoshi's Island but with different characters"

So, I guess "insert game here" is the same as "insert any random game" but with different characters.

I'mma ashamed of you... Donkey Kong Country never had Shy Guys, Yoshi's Island was the game that really made them (Super Mario Bros 2 was first to have them, but this was the first to include more then just two types and two colours.) and STILL you vote for Donkey Kong?

Ah well. My vote goes to Yoshi's Island. Mine cart levels are fun, and Baby Mario might be the most annoying baby on the whole planet (fortunately he was bested in the sequel by the much more annoying Baby Peach), but Yoshi changing forms, and some very great gameplay, make this the winner for me.

Hey, if there was a Shy Guy Island game, I'd vote for that right away. But darn it, Donkey Kong's just so darn cute. Plus I don't like how Shy Guys are portrayed as mediocre villains in that game. They are more than that! Also, Shy Guy cruelty is just not on.

Ok, so Yoshi's Island DS is a sequel. Fine, but that doesn't stop it from being a Yoshi's Island game.
I remember a while ago, you or someone told me that in Japan DK64 is known as DKC64 or something like that.

My vote goes to Yoshi's Island, although I don't really like the score system.

Yoshi's Island DS is a sequel, yes.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, is a Call of Duty game therefore it's just the same game with different stuff.
Mario Kart 7 is just the same game with different courses.
Every video game in history that's a sequel is just the same game as any other game in that series, just with 'different characters', or 'different levels'?

Jesus, seriously, EVERY sequel is "an [insert series] game". Mario Kart 7 is a Mario Kart game. Final Fantasy XIV Online is a Final Fantasy game, Donkey Kong 64 is a Donkey Kong game. Yoshi's Island DS is a Yoshi's Island game. Mario Party 9 is a Mario Party game. Grand Theft Auto V is a Grand Theft Auto game. OF COURSE Yoshi's Island DS is a "Yoshi's Island game". just like how EVERY sequel in [insert series] is an [insert series] game.
