Seems like a very, very interesting game. Instead of being a standard JRPG, it's a MMORPG, and has versions for all the Nintendo consoles on the market. As they say:

game is set in Astortia, which has five continents and five races

So it's a large world? Cool.

- game will still feature a huge story

Huge story? That's kind of rare in MMORPGs, isn't it?

- 5 races are ogre, elf, dwarf, pukuripo, and Wedi

I have no idea what the last two are, anyone else?

- create your own character

Meh

- don't have to play with others
- game can be cleared 100% on your own

These are interesting, because most current MMORPGs tend to require you to play with groups of people to clear the harder quests.

- this can be done using NPC characters

This worries me, AI controlled characters have always tended to be morons.

- similar commands to previous games

- Yosuke Saito is in-charge of Dragon Quest X: Awakening of the Five Tribes

- Saito was announced as the producer

Okay

- job system that allows you to change occupations

Interesting, but done to death.

- One of the jobs briefly shown was alchemist

Probably also done to death

- game will have events that tie into different seasons, such as holidays

Oh yay, it's just like World of Warcraft and Runescape, both of which have this exact stuff.

- added quests post release

Like any other MMORPG?

- expect these at the same pace, if not faster than Dragon Quest IX

Okay

- some quests span multiple volumes

?

- crafting professions exist

This isn't new you know.

- Alchemy doesn't create new items, but adds attributes to existing items

Damn.

- Gain "fame" by having other players equip items you crafted

However, this could be an interesting new system, don't you think? Virtual fame?

- player housing both outside and inside customizable

This is surprisingly not new either. Many games have this.

- take things like weapon and accessory maker jobs
- Players can help other players who've fallen
- see other players fighting in the world

Like any other game ever.

- characters have job and race
- go to the pub to assemble a party

This made me laugh a bit. Not sure why/

- let your character be used by other players in their parties

This however, is interesting. Use your character as AI when you're not online?

- other players who are in your area as you fight appear translucent and show their support for you
- all new DQX music from Sugiyama

Cool.

- create weapons that are used by other people

- Wii U version in the works, will look better and be powered-up
- players on Wii and Wii U play in the same world

Now this is interesting. Multiple console compatibility and the same game world?

- some StreetPass features for 3DS owners as well
- Apply for beta online, you will need USB storage
- Bring your character on 3DS for StreetPass content
- 3DS interactivity is being considered, not confirmed yet

- for the battle system, after a set amount of time, your character will be able to attack
- select skills from menus
- 4 players shown in battle, but that may not be the limit
- greet other online players with emotes
- chat bubbles pop up overhead when you talk
- customize characters by allocating skill points when you level up
- sewing system where players can create clothes
- looking to release sometime 2012
- play on Wii and continue on Wii U

Awesome.

There's a teaser site here:

Never the less, what do you think? Good idea? Could it makes the series more popular over here?

I think it sounds great.
The only thing I'm concerned about are possible subscriptions. I don't believe in paying subscriptions, so I hope that if there are any then they are not actually compulsory to play the game (it does say you can play the entirety on your own, so hopefully this is the case).
Also, I'm not sure if you mentioned this, but I think the StreetPass feature is just a sort of form of download play, and that there isn't actually a 3DS version (it will be interesting to see how it is implemented, though).

I got one Dragon Quest game and the gameplay was decent, but I loved that game for it's epic music.

If I end up buying this game, I'll probably just play it until I get tired of the music, or until I get so bored with the game that the music won't be able to keep me satisfied.

Never the less, it's a very interesting sounding game now. It has a final boss and ending despite being a MMORPG type game:
