Drifting away from anime

I watched a little bit of Sailor Moon when I was a kid but I haven't watched any anime since childhood.

Lots more to watch if you want to get into it.

That’s also been a thing for long time.

The reason why people romanticize past media, is because we’re looking at it from a curated lens. The good stuff is remembered and all the bloat is forgotten. It just looks like the past was only filled with good stuff.

I’m seeing people romanticize the pre-isekai or Crunchyroll days of anime, but you can go on MAL and pull up a random season from like 2008 and realize that you won’t recognize most of that season. Then there’s the 90’s where us westerners got the definition of curated where we primarily got the popular shows. Even then there’s forgotten anime that we got in the 90’s.

I’m a big music nerd and playlists or radio (either FM or XM) are curated for the songs that stood the test of time, but you can pull up a Billboard chart from a random past year and either forgot a large portion of that list or never heard of them.

I'll have to see how much anime was being made in the 80s and 90s versus now, but any media always has those titles that get lost.

There’s probably a lot, especially ones known by Westerners. There’s even ones we did get that are forgotten.

I’ve just been in my media related hobbies for so long that I’ve seen the goalpost of when it “stopped being good” constantly shift. Stuff praised now was shit on back then for being popular bullshit.
