this is a review written for the PS3 version of Oblivion, i wrote it on my forum a while back. the star ratings are a bit... off because they usually blend in with the forum skin.

If you're looking for an action packed, long lived, gripping RPG, then look no further! Oblivion is the ultimate package and at only £15, this game is a must have!

before reading this review, you must know one thing, do not buy Elder Scrolls IV : Oblivion, buy Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion : Game of the year edition. And buy it on platinum (i bought it from GAME) that way you get the full oblivion game, plus the awesome expansion pack, the shivering isles, plus the huge side-quest series for the knights of the nine, aswell as some well known glitches fixed and the introduction of a brilliant new song for the soundtrack.

i cannot stress enough, if you haven't got oblivion, get it! and in this review i will explain to you just why you should get it!

oblivion is set in a huge, medevil fantasy world where enemies roam in the darkest corners. the country is called Cyrodill. the emporor, Uriel Septim, has just been slain right before your eyes by a trained assassin faction called the mythic dawn. before he is killed he gives you a sacred artifact, the amulet of kings, and asks you to take it to jeoffry, a peaceful monk who helps the emperor's body guards.from there, its your job to close shut the jaws of oblivion and kill mehrunes degon, a huge beast from the gates of hell itself.

you start in a prison, then the emporor and his body guards, the blades, enter and escort you through the prison's secret escape route, after leaving the prison and seeing sun-light you have the choice, what should i do now? you are confronted with the choice of going off and starting the main quest, going and exploring dungeons and caves, visiting a town or city, searching for a side-quest or visiting the shivering isles if you have the expansion.

this game is all about your choices you can choose to be good, and complete all your quests quickly, helping those in danger, or evil, and killing everyone you see.

one of my favorite features of this game is the guilds, there are 4 guilds, each boasting different skills, each a place to sleep for its members, a place to buy and sell exclusive goods, a place to receive the best quests in the game, a place to make freinds with fellow guild members and a place to truly define what class you are.

the 4 guilds are as follows...
the fighters guild - anyone can join this guild, especially good for warriors of any sort, but that doesn't stop mages from joining.
the mages guild - the lower branches of the arcane university, where the real quests start, however, they still provide a place to sleep and sell/buy goods.
the dark brotherhood - to get into this guild, you must murder an innocent citizen of Cyrodill. the dark brotherhood is a dark faction who murder, if the right price is displayed.
the theives guild - to get into this faction you must be arrested for stealing an item, this guild will gladly buy your stolen good off of you.

another one of my favorite features is the chance to make your mark, you can easily make potions and once you've got into the arcane university, you can easily make your own spells and enchant your favorite weapons.

another brilliant feature is lock-picking, by collecting lock picks and using them on locked things such as doors and chests, you will be presented with a short mini game where you must try to unlock it using your lock picks. this follows on to being able to break into NPC's houses and steal their items while they are asleep/out, but beware, running around the house will surely wake them up resulting in them calling the guards.

but perhaps the best feature in oblivion is the space, the freedom to move around where you like, Cyrodill is a massive world full of un-seen quests and places and no matter how many times you play this game through, you will always encounter a different place.

i like...
- the amazing landscapes that cover the vast country of Cyrodill
- the huge amount of in-depth quests!
- how it cannot be beaten by any other RPG game, as much as they try, Oblivion will stay at number 1!
- the price of the game of the year edition

i dislike...
sad0049.gif
- a lot of glitches
sad0049.gif
- no downloadable content (you can thank microsoft for that -.-, however, there has been talk of it now that fallout 3 is out so fingers crossed!)
sad0049.gif
- i've played it so much that i've done every single quest and i want more! MORE!
