I know someone who gotten a free Dell laptop for signing up for high speed internet service, and I always get advertisement flyers and see TV commercials where the internet company gives away a laptop, Xbox Arcade, Tablets, and other internet device for free when signing up for internet service with them.

Unfortunately the companies here aren't that generous torwards us. :P I think it would be sort of cool if more companies did that,

lol, my ISP is too cheap to hand out free PCs.

I think ISP give away stuff as a cheaper alternative to TV, Radio, and other forms of advertising because a lot of people may tell their friends and family member they got a free laptop, tablet, or Xbox 360 for signing up for internet service. Giving away laptops and other electronics is usually cheaper than buying a lot of ads on TV, Radio, and online which can costs thousands or even millions of dollars for a short period of time if the ISP buy ad space during the NFL Superbowl, and Olympics, and most people with DVRs just skip the ads.

Giveaways are a good way to let people know about your product and services without spending a lot on ads which many people skip, or hiring staff to call your house to sign-up for servics.

Yeah, doesn't mean they'll actually do it though. The most I've gotten was a giftcard.

I didn't even knoe places would give out big stuff like that. My friend got a Wii from subscribing to Comcast Triple Play.

I was reading the newspaper, and a TV cable and internet provider was giving away free 42inch Samsung LCD TVS. It is a pretty good deal considering there isn't much good competition from other TV and internet providers which are not much better since most of the monthly cost for TV and internet service cost about the same per month unless you know someone who works at the company, you work for the company, or you bargain with them, and hope they bring down the price.

Were the LCD TVs given away to all new subscribers or was it something random?

I think it is for New customers only.

The TV company probably took out a loan, or had a lot of money in the bank to afford giving away TVs to new customers like how Cell phone providers afford to giveaway smartphones when you subscribe to them for 2 years or more.

Giving away stuff is also a lot cheaper than buying TV advertising which can cost many thousands of dollars per second, or millions for advertising during the Superbowl, Olympics, and other big sporting events, or popular shows like Survivor, and American Idol.
