Last night, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the critically-acclaimed breakout RPG from Sandfall Interactive, took home yet another Game of the Year award, only for the award to be completely stripped a few hours later over the game's alleged AI usage.

As first spotted by Insider Gaming, the Indie Game Awards have stripped Expedition 33 of its Game of the Year and Debut Game wins after voting had been completed, and the show was recorded and later aired on Friday.

"The Indie Game Awards have a hard stance on the use of gen AI throughout the nomination process and during the ceremony itself," a statement on the Indie Game Awards' website reads. "When it was submitted for consideration, representatives of Sandfall Interactive agreed that no gen AI was used in the development of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. In light of Sandfall Interactive confirming the use of gen AI art in production on the day of the Indie Game Awards 2025 premiere, this does disqualify Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from its nomination."

I have a feeling that we're going to keep seeing AI being used.

People and events will essentially have to accept it. It's only going to get better and less detectable.

It will be, which is why I'm surprised they gut rewards over its use.

It's a trend that some people are doing. They think it will go away like NFTs and all that.

Only NFTs were very niche where AI is very broadly used in everything.
Just because it's being used a lot doesn't mean it's good. But I do understand what you're saying. However, it's not popular. You go on YouTube right now, you will see a lot of fucking pushback on A.I. because A.I is currently moderating your uploads. Yes, as you're uploading. And then afterwards. If they ding you, the moderation team is basically A.I agents. Silicon Valley, much like anything it touches, obsess over technology. NOBODY WANTS A.I. NOBODY. It's nice to use it as a tool, but other than that... if you're using A.I. to build shit you want manifested... then guess what people will push back. It's not exclusive to gaming, either. It's bleeding out on everything. YouTube videos, Movies, Shows, I mean, you can't even tell if the show is A.I. or not.

If you're playing Call of Duty right now... I mean from Modern Warfare II (2022) to the recent Black Ops 7, ALL... OF... IT... IS.... A.I. Your matches are nerfed because of A.I. Your - player character is A.I. Your lobbies are A.I. Your loading screens are A.I. Your - Skill based matchmaking... IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. EOMM/SBMM - all of it. A.I. You ask activision right now, they will fucking gaslight you and say... "whatchoo talking about, there's no A.I." Fuuuuuuucccccck you. Fuck outta here with that shit.

I'm sorry Eddie, but I gotta say it like it is.

IMHO, this revocation of the GOTY is dumb because they're pandering to the woke mob. It's just using A.I. as a scapegoat. I don't think they used A.I. as much as Call of Duty is right now. It's a good game that deserves the GOTY, and I haven't even played it... yet.

The woke mob is mad at Geoff for handing these people the GOTY, and multiple awards in the same night. That's it.

I think it's BS that Expedition 33 lost out on the award. The wording of the article is weird too, it's indicating that the devs said they didn't use AI but then all of a sudden they said they did. Either they did or they didn't.

You aren't lying.

But that still doesn't mean it will stop. It will only get better. It will be hard to detect, too.

I hate AI on YouTube. I hit dislike every time.
