Which gen and its games are your favourites? And why are they so?
 
For the Pokemon themselves, I love the first generation. They were the ones I was introduced to, collected as cards, knew every name of (Who's that Pokemon!) and first played in Yellow when I got my first gameboy. I wish Nintendo would release a new game in which I can catch all of the originals too.

In a nutshell, Gen 5 is the best for all the amazing features in BW and BW2 (particularly the sequels). The story, I feel, was better in BW. Gen 2 (or more precisely, its remake) was also an amazing chapter in the Pokemon series. Gen 1, while great for nostalgia, had a lot of growing to do and really poor Pokemon designs. Yes, they came out with some great ones, but there was tons of filler and poorly designed Pokemon and the game in general just needed the work that would come in later years.

Actually I've played Gold, Platinum as well and am partway through White right now, I just have a particular fondness for the original 150 I collected as a kid. I'm not saying they're the best pokemon or the stories / gameplay were particularly good in the games, but my favorites will always be the Gen 1. As for balance of gameplay and depth of story, I'd agree that Gen 5 is pretty definitively tops.

Gen 1 will always be my favorite. It's the one I grew up with and I got it when it first came out. I remember how much I hated Pokemon Gold when it came out because I couldn't catch any of Pokemon I already knew... Besides a couple. Plus 4 of my 6 members on Pokemon Black are from Gen 1.

However story wise it's Gen 3. The only reason it's not Gen 5 is because
N is just a cliche villian.
 
Generation 1 is my favourite.

Sure, they keep adding new features and keep making the game better. I get that; I really do. It's just that I grew up on generation 1. Just like Brunn I collected the cards; I watched the anime; I played the games.

It's nostalgic still to this day my favourite Pokemon are from generation 1. I wish it was easier to obtain generation 1 Pokemon. You can get a lot of them, but there's still a few that are difficult to obtain. The starter Pokemon for one you need to beat HG or SS 3x in order to get all three of them. It's hard to do that when they keep releasing new games.

I grew up with gen 3 so gen 3 is always my favorite (The meta game is also much simpler and the Salac Berry is delicious!).
 
I like Gen 2 a lot. Everything from it was perfect for me, I loved the starters and it had the coolest Pokemon ever, IMO. It was fun and has a lot of content and I'm glad they did a remake, haven't plates Heart Gold and Soul Silver yet but I think i'll purchase them soon.
