Sad news for Final Fantasy VII fans because Square Enix has stated that new Final Fantasy titles “take precedence” over a remake of the much-loved classic.

In an interview in Japanese magazine Famitsu (translated by Gemsatsu) Character Designer Tetsuya Nomura said, “There are a lot of people who want a remake of Final Fantasy VII. However, new titles take precedence. We work our hardest to make something that might be even better than Final Fantasy VII. The new Final Fantasy must overcome the Final Fantasy of the past.”
He also expressed his belief that series producer Yoshinori Kitase is the future of the Final Fantasy series, and urged fans to trust the direction he takes it in.

Desire for a remake has been high since a tech demo for the PlayStation 3 showed Cloud, Aerith and the bustling streets of Midgar in High Definition.

what bull shit! And I like this comment from the article:

Fans: Give the fans what they want! Where is FF Versus XIII, Kingdom Hearts 3 or FFVII Remake!?!

Square: No! You'll take FFXIII-3 and like it!

Fans: *cries*

Honestly, I think they need to focus right now on finishing their other games first. Get the Versus 13 out there at least since it's been 6 years since it was announced. KH3 can wait since, to my knowledge, it was never formally announced. (Fans just wanted it.) Then after they get Versus 13 they can maybe bring out KH3 or remake FF7.

Though if they were working on it they would be smart not to tell otherwise. Since they had that problem before when they announced Versus all those years ago. (Bad planning on their PR dept there.)

Supposing they did remake FF7... I really have to wonder what changes they'd make to it. Surely they wouldn't just give it a graphical overhaul. They'd almost certainly have to modify other things in it too. Which makes me wonder that if they actually did go this route, would fans receive it positively? (Just because they clamour for something doesn't mean they'll get exactly what they want. Some of which is due to the fact games are hard to develop and there is a lot more that goes into them than people realise. Plus the new game probably wouldn't hold up to the hype/legacy of the original. Nostalgia has that effect sometimes.)

The KH makers have said they are ready to go back to console for KH, and all the KH games thus far have been a build up to KH 3. I think I even read that they are currently in one arc of many they have plan for KH.

As for the FF 7 remake, they need to keep it the same! But I know they could add on to the original to expand and make it better and possibly connect the before and after FF 7 plot better. It's even been said they cut stuff from the original FF 7 game due to lack of space/time/budget.

If you think FF 7 can't be updated without changing a lot of things, fans proven it can happen:

That would have been interesting. They could have also made it a spin-off, but XI and XIV actually do have story lines to them.

Because I don't have the money or time for MMO's, I got every mainline FF but 11 and 14 which is sad. If they felt like going MMO they should have done it like phantasy start or white knight chronicles and have a small offline story mode.

This. I also dislike MMO's, and a story mode would have been awesome. In fact they should just have made an offline version of the game.

After reading this thread i feel like i am crashed by a bouldoozer
Actually i'm one of FF7 supporters and i am waiting for the remake even now.
May i ask where is the official site?
Can they change their mind if we speak out our minds?

For the changes i wonder about FF7 "Dirge Of Cerberus"
Are they going to make the battle system like that one?
Or they may even merge the story?
Actually it will become too complicated!

I hope the graphics and the gameplay would be similiar like the movie " FF7 Advent Children".
I personally though that movie is cool and i like it very much...
However.... am i asking too much for it?
I personally think Square Enix are capable of handling things like this and making FF7 even more better...
hope they didn't let me down...

Well, I feel likes the plot's too linear & too simple to my taste anyway. Graphics awesome by the way.

That something I rarely hear when describing FF7's story.

Most would say the story was TO broad and complicated before they would say it is to "linear" and "simple".

But to each their own I suppose.
