Preview of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers - See full story
We've been following Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers ever since 2006, and now that more and more footage and playable content has started to emerge we're getting a better understanding of what exactly Square is out to achieve in its first true Wii epic.
On the TGS show floor this week is an updated Japanese build, including a few different save points that are anywhere from right at the beginning of the game, to about an hour in. In an attempt to dive a little further into the story – or at least hypothesize as to where the game is going – I instantly jumped into the 45 minute mark and checked out a few minutes more of Crystal Bearers.
First off, for those that haven't been following along Crystal Bearers is by far and away more of an adventure game than an RPG. Using the Wii remote's IR pointer you can crab items, enemies, and even friends, use motion to toss them in one of four directions, and even hold them up above your head as a carry item. From there, most of the main character's (Layle) moves are pulled off. It's a simple system, but it also makes decent use of the Wii remote, rather than just shaking randomly to attack or dismissing motion/IR altogether. Crystal Bearers is all about using Layle's telekinesis attacks to battle and solve puzzles.
