The upcoming sequel to Final Fantasy XIII has recieved some detailed coverage by Famitsu, revealing a bit about the plot and overall theme of the game. First off, the game is currently 70% completed, and it was confirmed that the Paradigm Shift battle system introduced in the first game has been retained for its sequel.

It was also confirmed that Noel, the person seen in the trailers and screens from E3 last week, is likely to have a more prominent role than the last game's main protagonist, Lightning. Motomu Toriyama, the game's producer, said that rather than having dual stories unfold for Noel and Lightning, most of the time you will advance through the story using Noel and Lightning's sister Serah, who was in the first game.

He also mentioned that Snow Villiers from the first game would be returning in some capacity in Final Fantasy XIII-2, and also noted that he isn't the type to worry about the relationship between Noel and Serah. Toriyama said that the new Mog Clock system (Hit the link for details) and the new cinematic action system will help make battles shorter.

It's been mentioned that the game may have multiple endings, and Toriyama said that the game will include a interactive conversation system called Live Trigger, which makes it so that each time you play, the possible selections during dialogue will change. He did say that this was implemented moreso to enjoy the dialogue rather than branching the story, though.

Another major point for the sequel is that the game will have towns, something the first game lacked, which attracted a lot of criticism. Toriyama also said that the town's residents will have individual AI. It was also mentioned that the game will have some sort of monster raising component, but there wasn't much detail given.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is set to be released in December of this year in Japan, and has a release in other territories planned for the first quarter of 2012.

Bleh. They should have kept Lightning the main character again.
I already dislike this Noel kid. He reminds me too much of Kingdom Hearts xD

HEY, Kingdom Hearts is epic. And if you have a problem with it, well then we have a problem here. >_>
