Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn doesn't force waggle down your throat -- and that's a good thing. At PAX 07 today, we took some time to try out the American edition of the turn-based strategy game, due for release in early November. The complete absence of a classic controller at the test station installed a case of nerves, but using the nunchuk and Wii Remote combo to move our heroes across the grid was surprisingly easy. In fact, the only waggle assigned to this demo was just to alter camera angles.

Our demo dropped us into a town under siege by a league of bandits. We started with just too warriors: A skilled swordsman and a magic user. If you've played previous entries in the series, you know exactly what to expect. Taking turns, you move across the grid-covered landscape to zero in on enemies are complete objectives. We moved through the township, attacking enemies head-on with our swordsman while launching spells from a safe distance or while standing behind crates. (If the spell radius is large enough, you can use crates and other objects as physical cover.)

Radiant Dawn is slated for an early November release, right before the show-stopper that is Super Mario Galaxy.
