It is nice to see that there would be a lot of Exhibitors to Gamescom 2020.
Gamescom 2020's latest statement:
Dear Community,
We are currently receiving enquiries about how a possible threat from the corona virus [sic] could affect gamescom.
We take this topic very seriously because the health of all trade fair visitors and partners is our top priority.
On [March 10, 2020], the city of Cologne banned all major events with more than 1,000 participants up to and including [April 1, 2020] on the basis of a decree issued by the state government on the same day. Since gamescom takes place at the end of August 2020, we are currently not affected by this decree. However, we will of course follow the recommendations of the responsible authorities regarding major events, evaluate them on a daily basis and make our decisions after careful consideration. The preparations for the #gamescom2020 are continuing as planned according to the current status for the determined date.
Should gamescom be postponed or cancelled by Koelnmesse, all ticket purchasers of the official ticket shop will be reimbursed for the already paid visitor tickets. Voucher codes lose their validity and will be made available again for new events.

They have at least until August to see how the situation is before calling anything off.
Hopefully it won't be canceled...
I agree it would be the least of our concerns.
I feel there maybe not enough visitors to the conference if the Coronavirus is still not undercontrol because face masks are sold out at many places, and public transportation like buses, trains, and air planes maybe closed.

Gamescom 2020 going full digital coz of the virus:

Just like many of you, we are disappointed, because, as the Gamescom team, we have been working on a wonderful Gamescom 2020 for months, just like the many exhibitors. However, it is also quite clear to us that, in the face of the corona pandemic, we must stand united. This means that we must all be considerate of each other and reduce the risk of infection.
We are, however, working at full speed on a digital Gamescom. It is, after all, the world’s biggest event for games, and that’s what it should be again this year. You can already look forward to how we will celebrate the best games and Gamescom together with you and millions of gamers worldwide at the end of August, even if it will only be digital and not on location this time. Because one thing is certain: this year, too, Gamescom is and will remain “The Heart of Gaming”!

From the sounds of it, all events are canceled this year, so good they went digital.
I feel goung digital would be the safest wayto continue Gamescom. The Coronavirus is still killing and infecting a lot of people around the world, so having a lot of peoplr in one city may cause the city to have a lot of people infected and killed by the Coronavirus.

There is no need to buy a ticket for Gamescom now so that as many fans as possible get the chance to experience Gamescom.
Gamescom: Opening Night Live, Awesome Indies, Daily Show, and Best of Show
Gamescom: Opening Night Live with Geoff Keighley, one of the widest-reaching gaming shows worldwide last year, will kick off Gamescom 2020 on August 27.
In addition, other formats will be produced this year such as the first-ever Gamescom: Awesome Indies. In this surprising show, you will get to hear all the important announcements and news about the most anticipated indie titles.
Also new is the Gamescom: Daily Show, which will talk about and expand on the highlights from its own formats as well as the shows and promotions of the gaming companies and partners on a daily basis. In the Gamescom studio, top developers will be interviewed and provide background information on the latest developments.
This year’s Gamescom will be topped off with the Gamescom: Best of Show. On August 30, this new format will close the event with a summary of this year’s Gamescom highlights and presentation of the Gamescom award.
Devcom Digital Conference 2020
This year’s Devcom Digital Conference 2020 (from August 17 to 30) will have a two-thirds broad program ready for trade visitors with lots of talks and plenty of matchmaking. In the future, Devcom will also offer a varied program of talks, shows or master classes for game developers all year round.
