Yay, I have a horrible mental disease! I don't have to go to work anymore!

Seriously though, if having fun is wrong, then I don't want to be right. Playing video games is no different than watching movies/tv shows, or obsessing over a football team. If gaming is a mental disorder, than so should obsession over a sports team or watching too many movies.

WHO is totally stupid with this. Addicted to your hobby is basically a form mental illness then, the heck.

Gaming disorder may have categories because of the nature, i think video games are addictive like other vices but it's not mental in my opinion. Video games are made for us to have fun and just to be happy, addiction is when your playing affects your life's routine like eating , working and others...now i think it's not a mental disorder... its a matter of responsibility.
Just like in casino and other gambling games, it's more of an addiction than a mental state. Just my opinion...

Any kind of addiction is bad. Reading is abgood habit, however, if you are addicted to reading, it will do more harm than good. Likewise, gaming is for entertainment and fun, however, if you play too much gaming becomes an addiction and addiction is a form of disease. I did now know WHO classified a new disease called gaming disorder, however, I already believed that playing too much games was some kind of psychological disorder.

So basically I have a form psychological disorder then lol. Been gaming all my life for long hours and all my daily activities are always doing completely fine. It's too specific of a case by case basis thus it cannot be classified as in a general term("compulsively playing video games now qualifies as a mental health condition.") like what WHO is doing now.

Dark Young Link have a point - it really is no different to playing sport or even watching television, gaming is like focusing on one thing that you like to do.
maybe psychological disorder if you lose your mind and try to do things that you can only do in the game and recreate it in the actual life, but it is also no different on watching violent programs on the television that if you also tried to recreate is also considered psychological disorder.
I guess they only called it Mental Health Condition just to make other people think that gaming could actually cause mental illness but in reality it really is no different on watching Television.

I don't want to sound angry, but the WHO are totally wrong with this type of classification and I am pretty sure that they are going to regret this. Gaming gives me joy and I always feel bad each day that I don't handle the pad and that doesn't mean that I am abnormal of any way.

Sometimes, a bunch of people would sleep and wake up one to discuss and publish one irrelevant statement, classifying it as one problem or another thing.

This is exactly what WHO has just done with giving gaming to bear a mental disorder name. Yes, it's true that some people are very addicted to gaming but that doesn't make them sick. If things should be analyzed in such manner, how about those football fanatics that fight and kills for sports? What is their own mental health problem classification?

I also don't agree with WHO on this. Hardcore gamers are naturally spending more hours than average playing video games because that's what they love spending their time on. I guess those who made these studies aren't gamers.

Don't agree with this at all. Seems like an excuse for bad parenting not limiting video game usage for kids and not being responsible themselves. It's also probably responsible for less hours than people sitting around watching TV all day, but that isn't a problem apparently.

People can and do get addicted to gaming.
When an addiction controls your life and becomes the primary focus, it means other areas of a persons life gets neglected, including looking after themselves.
I hope people seek treatment and now the medical professions will treat it seriously.

I don't agree with this, actually playing games also helps us to be more creative and think critically it helps us to improve our brain. But I think the only bad side of being a gamer is that you are already abusing your self, for example, you are not going out to have an exercise you don't get a glimpse from the sun any more. As a gamer you should be responsible at the same time.

Shall I say neither of the two. Its just that we got addicted on how the game maker's idea is so awesome that they can create an exciting yet mind wrecking one.

I don't think gaming is a disease. In my opinion gaming overly is just a form of addiction but not disease. But if you will consider addiction as disease, that's the time that we can call it disease.

Exactly, some people can spend hours in the bar drinking and getting drunk on daily basis and I don't see WHO labeling it one mental disorder. Personally, I stay over 6 hours seating in one place watching soccer because I'm addicted to it and it's not termed one mental disorder, so how is getting addicted to playing games gets to jump the cue and get a mental disorder name first? It's very bizarre.

You just echoed my thought. Playing games or being addicted to it is just like any other hobbies one fancy and want to stick with.if we are to go by that analogy then those sport enthusiasts have mental diseases because theirs is more addictive than ours.wouldn't mind the mental disorder with playing games though if they think so.
