Finally, the Virtual Console is actually getting some love with some decent releases!
April 3
Advance Wars - Wii U, $7.99
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - Wii U, $7.99
Metroid Fusion - Wii U, $7.99
April 10
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror - Wii U, $6.99
WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! - Wii U, $6.99
April 17
Super Mario Bros. 3 - Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, $4.99
F-Zero: Maximum Velocity - Wii U, $6.99
Golden Sun - Wii U, $7.99
April 24
Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 - Wii U, $7.99
Yay! At least 4 of these will be insta-buys for me, especially the long awaited (If slightly disappointing GBA version) of Yoshi's Island! All of these look pretty fantastic, especially when compared to their lousy offerings already on the VC! The only downside is that they'll all be single player, regardless of whether they originally had multiplayer or not; which I can kind of see since the GBA used the link cables to connect?
Anyone else pretty stoked about this? Do you think Nintendo's finally gotten a clue about their lousy Virtual Console releases to date? Maybe this means we'll finally get some of the SNES games that have been languishing unreleased for so long. It'd be nice if this is a sign of good things to finally come!
Woah that's pretty awesome! :O I wish they'd release some on the Nintendo 3DS eShop T_T Kinda forcing me to buy a Wii U for any GBA games. Well at least we got something
That's awesome, but I'm not really interested in the current line up. I've either played them already or just don't want them. Though it excites me for the future.
Ugh, it's still weird that they are putting GBA on Wii U before 3DS. I also don't care for the prices, these should be $4/$5, not $7/$8. Playstation sells most of it's Playstation games for $6 and their PS2 games are all $10. I'm not really understanding the logic where Nintendo thinks their GBA games are worth somewhere between a PS1 and PS2 game. IMO the pricing model should be:
NES: $2 ($3 for popular titles)
SNES: $4 ($5 for popular titles)
N64: $7 ($8 for popular titles)
GC: $10 across the board
The current screwed up pricing is why I've only bought 1 Virtual Console game on my Wii U and that was only because Super Metroid was on sale for $0.30!
I can't help but notice how many of these are ambassador games. I understand why since these are some of the best GBA games, but I would have liked to see more games I don't own. Superstar Saga though, I'm buying that as soon as I can.

Huh, I didn't notice that, but I've always been annoyed as heck that after 3 years now they hadn't made the ambassador games available to buy for those of us who didn't quite make it on their ambassador program. I got my 3DS just a month or two after they ended that program, and would have given them my money a loooooong time ago for those games. I never really understood why they did this... The 'specialness' of the program wasn't the games themselves, it was getting a whole truckload of them for free. No sense in denying themselves a bunch of money when they could have easily stuck them on the eshop years ago..
In any case, hopefully this is just a little taste of the goodness to come and they'll keep putting out good games!
From what I've heard, the reason they haven't released those games for sale is because they still don't have a working GBA emulator for the 3DS. When Ambassador games are played, the 3DS is tricked into playing in DS mode and that's the loophole they use to get the games to play. The home button does not work for Ambassador games like it does for all other VC games. For whatever reason, Nintendo is incapable of getting a working GBA emulator on the 3DS to run natively on the system.
Actually Kirby and the Amazing Mirror doesn't look that bad now that I see it. Isn't that the one with four Kirby's? The only thing is the price. Like Benoit said, the pricing for a GBA game is crazy.

Short sighted seems more the term... I mean, people have been making emulators for years. We've been able to get Starfox 64 to play on the computer, android tablet, android phone, a PSP and a PS Vita, homebrewed onto the Wii... if there's something with a screen on it, my husband's gotten Starfox to play on it. If I remember right, he even managed to get it to kind of work on the old DS, but it was pretty choppy. I just can't see that the GBA would be more difficult to emulate then an N64...
I can see them rushing the Ambassador program games just to get something out there quickly to appease the people who'd bought the system. But I really don't see that they can't get a GBA emulator to work. I think they've just underestimated the appeal that the older games will have, just like they have with the NES and SNES on the VC already. There just doesn't seem like any other reason they haven't pushed this good stuff out sooner, especially considering all the buzz these GBA titles for the Wii U have already made. I could definitely be wrong as I know nothing of programming and whatnots, but it just doesn't seem possible Nintendo can't figure it out, you know?
Anyway, I'm glad Nintendo are doing this, I hope it brings some much needed attention to the Wii U. I've been meaning to play the Advanced Wars series and M+L for years so will definitely be picking those up at some point.

Do you have a source for this? I've never heard anything like that.

Benoit delivers the sauce. Disappointed that Nintendo hasn't released any 3DS games on the eShop. I wished Nintendo would release GBC Pokemon games on the 3DS eShop, atleast. That would be great.
It would make more sense for GBA games to be on the 3DS, rather than the Wii U to me. It makes no sense that there are more GBA games available for the Wii U, than the 3DS...
Personally, I don't mind, seeing as I have both a 3DS and a Wii U. I actually agree with Nintendo to a point on it, the Wii U needs some exclusives, and these are some of their most requested games. People need to start buying the console, and if this helps convince people to pick one up (as releasing fantastic new games like Super Mario 3D World and DKC:TF that every critic loved doesn't seem to do it), then great! Maybe they'll make it available for 3DS sometime in the future when the Wii U is properly on it's feet.

They've released the games on Wii U to entice people to buy it, obviously.
