General thoughts on Super Mario Maker?

What do you think of it?

Personally, I'm slightly ambivalent about the title. It's decent enough, but it seems far too limiting for truly interesting level ideas, and hence I'll probably stick to Lunar Magic and Super Mario Bros X for the most part.

But what do you think?

Too limiting? I've seen things that Nintendo's never done, or anything I've seen in Lunar Magic/various rom hacks I've seen.

However, I'm totally hyped for this. Maybe I'll make levels, but I'm more interested in playing user levels.

After watching the Nintendo World Championships Final consider me hyped. I can't wait to see the kind of creativity the community dishes out.

Especially after seeing what kind of havoc you can be tossed into. :D

I'm looking forward to it, if I can get the game for a good deal. Not something I pay full price for but I feel it will be great for the stale 2D side scrolling mario series.

When I was younger I probably would have dug this. But the creativity well hath run dry in my old age and I'm just not feeling the hype for it. I would only get it if I found it in a bargain bin.

I think it'll be a good game as long as I can share levels with other people online. I really need to get a WiiU they have so much cool stuff on it. Just can't justify the upgrade yet. :(

It does look interesting but I'm not sure how much fun re-play value it will have for me. Will i get bored after making a few levels? Not sure. I'll pick it up anyway so i guess i'll find out soon!

While I'm not personally bothered, I'll just say the two words that EVERYONE (almost) is complaining about.

NINE DAYS!

I'm bothered by the fact that the game is $59.99 plus tax would be like $61. I get that it's Mario, I get it's a money maker, and I get that it comes with 100 levels, but it's a level editing game. It's not worth full price. That doesn't mean I won't buy it, it just bugs me.

I would be totally hyped for this if my friends irl were too, so we'd make levels for each other and stuff but. I'm the only person I really know who still follows Nintendo. My other Wii U owning friends have all lost interest in Nintendo.

I'm personally super stoked for this. Lunar magic was way fun to use way back when, but the convenience that super mario maker brings as well as the new interactions that several assets now share is something that I am very much so looking forward to getting my hands on.

I might use it for a few things, but I'll stick to Lunar Magic for larger projects. Can't implement custom graphics or ASM in Mario Maker.

You're missing the point. Super Mario Maker is for creating "Super Mario" stages. Sure Lunar Magic can do that. But can you create a Bullet Bill Blaster that shoots out giant winged bloopers? Can you have swimming goombas?

Seriously, I'm asking.

No matter how cool it is, if it's Nintendo related Cheat will always find something to complain about. It's his thing.

Eh, let's get real here for a moment. Lunar magic is the bees knees, but it's so gosh darn infuriating to use sometimes and it can feel really limiting unless you know how to program. On default, you can't even use enemies of two different level types together in the same level without some serious effort on your part. Super Mario Maker basically tears down whatever walls were raised through other editors and let's you realize whatever your imagination creates. Honestly, this looks waaaaaay better and waaaaaay more convenient than any other editor that I've seen. And TUK has a point there, when you mess around so much with the graphics, it does kinda take away from the charm of what mario was. SMM holds true man!

I'm excited for it. I think it'll be fun to put together the levels, mixing up all the different Mario generations and stuff, and with built in support of sharing them as well. Not sure when I'll be able to get my hands on it, but it IS one that I want.
