I saw somewhere that Sony was getting out of the handheld business. By that, I mean they were going to stop providing any support for the Vita (their successor to the PSP) or create any new games for the Vita.

Do you think it is smart on their part to get out of the handheld business? What other ways do you think they'll try to compete?

That may have been where I saw it. Thank you for sharing that here cm2.

What do you think of that?

yer welcome.

I think sony should just focus on console especially with be Big N's mighty grip in the handheld market at the moment and in the foreseeable future...

I think Sony cancelling handheld may cause Sony to be less popular with many handheld and mobile gamers by not making handhelds anymore, and make current Vita fans buy a Nintendo Switch and Windows 10 Gaming Laptop/tablet for using for playing newer higher quality games like Call of Duty when they are not at home, no power available, or there is a random power outage at home where non-battery powered devices can't turn ON when a person's home electricity is not working.

I read news articles that say California, USA been having power outages because of forest fires and high winds, so a game console and desktop PC won't work during power outages. I think Sony could be missing out on a lot of handheld sales if there are a lot of power outages which force people to use handheld consoles, Gaming laptops, smartphones and tablets for gaming.

Sony is ignoring people with a small home or are homeless by not making handheld consoles anymore. There are a lot of people who are homeless or do not have the space in their home for a full size console and TV because they live in a RV/Recreational Vehicle, van, car, boat, and small apartment where space is very small espiecally when you share a smaller home with two or more people. Their only gaming device choices for playing higher quality games maybe a gaming handheld, smaller gaming pc, or laptop because they are the only devices which does not take up a lot of space in their small home.

Sony will also lose some poorer gaming handheld buyers who can only afford a $200 or cheaper handheld console.

Some poorer gamers may feel Sony is ignoring the poor because Sony no longer sells more affordable gaming handhelds which some poor people can afford. Some poorer gamers may choose not to buy the PS4 when they have more money because Sony no longer sells cheaper gaming devices which more poor people can afford sort of like how some people with more money choose to buy a $1000 custom Windows Gaming PC instead of an Apple iMac or Macbook Pro because Apple never released a more affordable $400 laptop or desktop PC which more people can afford, so their relationship with the Apple brand may never be very good.

There maybe fewer new Sony game console buyers in the future because gamers can no longer buy Sony handhelds. Some gamers may not know the PS4 exists if none of their friends, family, and co-workers own a PS4 or talk about the PS4, and the gamer don't pay attention to Sony gaming news and PS4 advertisements on TV or online. Some current PSP and Vita owners may of bought the PS4 because they like their PSP and Vita, and saw an ad for the PS4 on PSN for PSP and Vita, ad for PS4 on Sony PSP Vita website and the e-mail newsletter for Sony PSP Vita.

I've said it a hundred times and I'll say it another hundred, Nintendo owned the handheld market, they were the market, mobile and Sony picked up the scraps. Sony did get a good foothold with the PSP but screwed up majorly with the PSP go I think it was? Whatever the digital only device and then reallllly screwed up with the Vita by making such small and expensive memory cards for it.

It's a shame, but Sony just needs to stick to consoles.

I felt those Sony Memory stick cards made Sony handhelds, and other Sony electronics less popular.

The PSP Vita TV/Playstation TV was not a good idea because it was somewhat expensive, and did not have as many games compared to regular consoles.
