Those kind of characters can now be easily seen in almost recent animes. Do you think they are real in japan? I know there are also on other country but let's focus on japan cus I am referring to anime. What can you tell/thought about these people? Where might there money be coming from? for Rent, Clothes, Foods, Video Games?

Anyway if you are curious to this topic I highly recommend "NHK ni Youkosou!" the story revolves around the daily life of an adult hikikomori.

Hikikomori (引きこもり) is real, it exist after one is bullied by member of the school too hard.
Hikikomori person live in same house as parents, so food, money, cloth is given.
Food delivery and cloth order is normal, so if one live alone, money can be given by parents if it visit.

Well, now you could see them in many anime and I do believe they exist in real life as well.
There can be various reasons from bullying to getting addicted to gaming and such
