I have not have a broken power supply with my for my desktop computers which I had been using for many years.
I also no longer hear as many stories about as many PC users having broken power supply problems on newer desktop computer these days compared to the past where power supplies seem to be less reliable on computers made by eMachine, Dell, HP, etc.
I think power supply failures are more common if you don't use a good surge protector which prevent a power surge from damaging a power supply on a PC.
Power supplies may fail as the computer gets older like most electronic devices.
The charger/power supply for laptops can fail as well.
But, desktop power supplies are more affordable to replace on a basic tower desktop PC. A good ATX power supply for desktop tower PC can be bought for $50, and the power supply should be good enough for most non-gaming desktop tower PC.
I've only had one power supply failure in the past 10 years. My laptop's battery also died (I blame ArcheAge), and its been dead since. I just use it plugged in lol.
