If you want iOS 5 but you don't want to pay for Apples Developer Account for the Beta, then use this method. (The account costs $99) So this would let you use the new iOS.

It's only compatible with 3rd and 4th generation idevices.

1. First download the ISPW for iOS 5. You can find this through google.
2. Update your idevice using iTunes. just connect your iPhone to your computer, click on the “Check for Update” button with the “Option” (Mac) or “Shift” (PC) key pressed. Click on the iOS 5 IPSW file.
3. Wait until it finish upgrading. You should get an activation screen.

Activate iOS 5:

1. Press home button 3 times. This will activate the Voice Over.
2. Press home button 3 times again, and Emergency Call will appear.
3. Click the Emergency Call and, while it’s switching, swipe with three fingers down.
4. The Notification Center will popup.
5. Click the Weather widget. After it Loads.
6. Click on the home button to exit to the iPhone’s springboard

Edit: Or you can wait until this Fall, and get it when its released to the public.

I was wondering how to do this! Though what does all those steps really do? It doesn't really make sense. Is it like a code they came up with? lol
I will probably try this and respond back once I have done it. Thanks. :D

*ALERT*

Don't do this on your iPod Touch 4th Gen! It doesn't work. I tried it and got IOS 5 installed but you are unable to activate it. The part where it says "press the home button 3 times again" all it does is disable the Voice Over. You don't get any "Emergency Call". I believe that is limited to the iPhone, for obvious reasons. Dang I wish I caught that! Now I'm having to try and restore my iPod because it's currently unusable..

Thanks for the warning. I probably wouldn't have done it though. I'd hate to lose my jailbreak anyways.

Yeah no problem. It was a pain to get my iPod back working again. After getting IOS 5.0 installed I found that it couldn't be activated, as said. Then I plugged it up just for iTunes 10.3 to pop up and say that it could not communicate with my iPod because it runs a firmware newer and that I needed to update iTunes. So then I had to go searching for 10.5 as it's not out yet and install it. After installing it, I found there was still nothing I could really do to get IOS 5.0 working. So I then bumped that back down to 10.3 and had to revert itunes library.itl to an older version (thank you windows...) After that I find out how to force my iPod into restore mode by holding both the power and home button down through the reboot process. This allows 10.3 to recognize it and allow me to restore. Once I restored it, of course all my settings, apps, photos, and music were gone. But at least I could get iTunes 10.3 to work with it at this point. So I then restored a backup I made before doing this (smart?) which took some time, at least for the part where apps were copied back over. After that I found out that my music was not restored. So I had to copy that back over manually. That was probably the fastest and easiest part though.

So yeah, don't bother with this. :emo-wallbash:
