I didn't bother to get the game at all, the reason being IT'S THE SAME AS ALL THE OTHER "NEW" MARIO GAMES! Sure, the little gimmick is different, but the game is the exact freaking thing. Don't want to get NSMBU for the same reason...the horse died after Wii, yet they're still beating it. Hell, 3D Land felt like NSMB to me, with 3D worlds instead of 2D. Galaxy and Galaxy 2 were the last games that had any innovation in my opinion (notice how they stopped after 2 there...that was SMART). Sure you turn things into gold and coins are EVERYWHERE, but it's the exact same game otherwise, except easier since you'll never run out of lives, and a gold powerup makes you nigh on invincible. Let's look at the NSMB games, 3D Land included.
NSMB: Returned the series to its roots. A good idea, and a refreshing look back at where the series began.
NSMBWii: Same game, added propeller (interesting game mechanic), and added a co-op option to the main storyline. Good move (my dad and I enjoyed playing through it together)
SM3DL: Same game, added tanooki (and overused it) and made levels 3D. Otherwise, no difference.
NSMB2: Same game, added gold power up. Coins every freaking where.
NSMBU: Same game, added ability to add blocks to jump on (what??).
It's about time we got some innovation for the series. If you want a new 2D game, give us something original...NSMB was a great innovation...give us something in a new graphics style, all new music, and switch up the worlds so each game doesn't look exactly the same as the one before it. If you want 3D, don't give us a 3D NSMB...give us an innovation. Galaxy was excellent, Sunshine (although it didn't sell well) is still fun to play today. SM64 is widely acclaimed to still hold up in its N64 incarnation...THAT'S a sign of a lasting game. 3D Land bored me to death, as the level length was comparable to NSMB, there was nowhere to explore, and it was too blasted easy (What kind of final boss do you fight by NEVER HURTING IT??? At least the original SMB let players who kept the fire flower all the way through use them to beat up on Bowser). Color me disappointed.
