Huawei, whose new experimental set-up can take a dead battery to 48 percent change in about five minutes.

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has developed a lithium-ion battery with a graphite-coated anode that can withstand the stresses of incredibly fast charges. Its 3,000mAh prototype—which is about the size of battery you’d find in a large smartphone—can be charged by 48 percent in just 5 minutes. It also has a much smaller 600mAh battery that can be charged to 68 percent in 2 minutes.

Wow, these are some pretty fast charging times.

Like VirusZero VirusZero was saying in another topic, we need batteries like this that can charge easily.

It's not so much that we need them to charge fast alone but rather we need them to have ultra-high capacity too. I mean a 3000mah battery is a good start... but even still... if you're running youtube at full brightness on wifi then you're going to watch your battery level drop pretty rapidly. Unless your phone had like a 6000mah battery (with this quick charge tech) then it's still going to drop some, but it'd last much longer simply because it has a much higher amount of power to pull from.

But the problem with doubling the capacity is that it takes up more space. Plus as we get into more powerful hardware we're going to need those higher capacities just to sustain current usage levels.
