I actually meant Network+ lol I am still decidingI would go with more of the cisco stuff, since that name holds more weight to it. But it really depends on what the company you work for will recognize the most.

It also depends on what you’re going to be doing. If you’re trying to apply for a Sysadmin or be a DBA position, Cisco certs aren’t going to help, as opposed to a Netadmin. Though having a Net+ along with Sec+ isn’t going to hurt. Sec+ also helps if you’re also working on anything that deals with any kind of security. If you’re doing anything that involves PII or HIPAA, you’ll need Sec+ at a minimum.I would go with more of the cisco stuff, since that name holds more weight to it. Essentially pick a specific field and look at the most effective certifications for that field. If you wanna manage switches and routers, getting a VMware cert isn’t going to help, or have applicable knowledge.
I’ve only worked in places where those were completely separate. When I started doing server admin stuff, the only networking I’ve had to do was manage a Brocade switch for Commvault (which has separate commands), and Vsphere virtual nicsWell this and yet I will be manging both switches and VMware down the line so again, it depends on the company and their setup.
I have setup VMwares at home but I really haven't really showed it at any interviews yetWell this and yet I will be manging both switches and VMware down the line so again, it depends on the company and their setup.
@Revolved101 what matters is to have something to show you know something in that field and can step into learn the enviroment you will be manging. Certifications aside, do some home projects in what you want to do, document and get proof of what you can do, it will give you a flying horse to get far for interviews.

But No sure about VSphere lol never used itIts good to show what you can do.
There is a free version of Vsphere ESXI, sure it's got limitations, but you can still use it to set up virtual machines and get familiar with the software to deploy virtual machines. But No sure about VSphere lol never used it
Man, so much in these last few days, my head is still spinning
SO!
Here is what is going on, I have been promoted to a network admin for my job and going from comfy and cozy nighttime hours to grueling daytime hours! Great as this is, I will dearly miss the nighttime laziness and hours I enjoyed.
So what does this mean for GL? Well, means the site never has to worry about keep its bills paid, that's for sure
My activity might be odd for a bit while I get suited to day time hours instead of nighttime, but all should be good.
When I took over this site I was but a mere uncaring high school student, now I'm at the top of a high corporate ladder with a job title that will turn me into the most valuable job people seeker in the IT industry. What a crazy 14 years....
Legend it has been a long time since I have seen you here how are you?Congrats DS for the promotion.![]()
