Is it me or is the Mario Kart 7 Custom GP mode a bit broken?

I've been playing this mode in Mario Kart 7 recently, and while it's pretty fun, the whole thing seems poorly designed.

For one thing, the AI there seem to be some of the most ruthless opponents in the game. Seriously, I swear 150cc was easier than this, and the rubber band effect is absolutely unbelievable.

Secondly, the actual Mii AI is absolutely terrible all things considered. I've played about four different GPs, and not once did the Mii whose GP it 'was' actually come in the top three at the end. In fact, the last guy's Mii only came fourth overall because of one race, he came fifth in every single one of the first three races in the Grand Prix...

Shouldn't the person's Mii be the best AI character? Because it seems strange how you're racing someone's 'custom GP', yet their Mii is the worst guy there!

Finally, why is this mode so tucked away and 'hard' to find? Why can't you race on your custom Grand Prix? Why do you go back to the title screen when it's over rather than to the StreetPass list?

Is this whole mode just some last minute addition Nintendo made to the game?

From the experiences I've had with it, yeah, the Mii is pretty stupid in that mode. They're just mediocre. I'm fairly certain your Mii will race in a style that matches the ranking that you have when you StreetPass them (Drift Wizard, Banana Pro, those weird little things).

I didn't really notice an incredibly difficult AI or worse rubber band but I'm sure it was harder than the standard GPs.

I have no idea why the mode is tucked away. The exact same bloody reason there's no Vs Mode. That's my biggest beef with this game, no Vs. Bloody ridiculous.

Never really tried the mode, but MK7 in general has lost my interest a while ago. They should have kept the monthly challenge stuff from MKWii.

I thought the Mii was supposed to roughly imitate the general/average skill of that person. If the Mii keeps getting 5th, it's likely because the general skill of the person who's Mii it is, sucks

For example, I've played against my sister's Mii, and her Mii can sometimes almost beat me.

In some of my cups, the Miis get pretty tough, while in other cups the Miis are just stupid. I think BrawlBRSTMs2 has it right. I do wish there was a way for Nintendo to add in Vs. Mode. Isn't that something that can be "patched?"

Also what is the "rubber band" effect?

Also what is the "rubber band" effect?

You hit a computer with a lightning bolt, then run over them with a bullet bill and are miles ahead of them. Then within 10 seconds they are hot on your trail again.

Basically, the game makes the computer perform especially well (at some times, making them cheat by going faster than they should) to catch up to you. Happened a lot in MK64 if I can recall correctly.

I always imagined it was called a 'rubber band' effect, because it's like well, imagine you and the opponent have a rubber band attached around each other. Your opponent is sent backwards, and then you zoom forwards, stretching the rubber band, and then suddenly, somehow, the other 'end' of the rubber band snaps and propels the CPU forward.

Also, who does NOT think that they butchered the Bullet Bills and Stars?

No lie, I swear, I can ALMOST... just about overtake someone in a Bullet Bill, just using some mushrooms alone.
