Is it Safe to Uninstall The Homebrew Channel?

I've got so many questions, I don't really know where to start. Yesterday, I installed the Homebrew channel (that's it, nothing else) onto my Wii. I only just realized after doing it how risky it is and how complex it is. I dearly regret it, and want to know if it is safe to remove it using the letterbomb (the same way I got it on there) and what side effects may occur after. Also, since this program is made by hackers, can they in any way track what I'm doing or take control of my Wii? I regret this very much, and I'd much appreciate if someone could help me. If there is anything else I need to know, it would be nice to know. Thank you in advance, LilElvis.

It isn't actually dangerous just to have the Homebrew channel. It's the things you do with it, such as installing custom features. But don't worry, none of that stuff comes with the HBC by default, you have to download it manually off the internet, so you should be fully aware of what you're getting yourself into if that happens.

Nobody will be able to control your Wii or anything like that, it's completely harmless. I don't know how to remove it though, that's something you should google. There are lots of safe homebrew apps you can download and use on your Wii, but you should be careful when using the more complex things.

..Can you even do that?

Ok, that's a relief. But, there is an uninstall feature on the program you use to install it in the first place, but I keep fearing that I'm gong brick the damn thing, does anyone know if there's a big risk of bricking my Wii when I try to uninstall it, or if there's any weird side effects that could occur?

if I were you, I'd look for a video on Youtube and follow that step by step. If it works for the guy in the video, it should work for you.

Oh, you used Letterbomb?

As far as I know, unninstalling it from your Wii wont do anything, in fact, INSTALLING it was foolish of you, unninstalling does nothing.

Also, how can hackers even trace your Wii in any way, and what can they actually do with that information at all o_O?

..Yes, Homebrew Channel is uninstallable. I remember removing it once before having my Wii shipped to Nintendo for repairs, they didn't find any traces of Homebrew on it since I got my Wii returned, repaired, and working perfectly fine. IIRC, you should be able to remove it through the Wii Menu itself in the channel management. Homebrew has it's own separate channel, as if it was a real Wii channel. If I remember from removing it ages ago, the channel displays as a ? when you are browsing through your channels in channel management.

Ok, I heard that it was able to be removed through the Wii menu, but I was told that there were some things hidden in the hard drive that may only be removed when you use the programs installer. Also, is it true that there are permanent changes to the temp files that only a Wii update can remove?

Oh, also, I looked for a Youtube video, and found hundreds of thousands on how to install it, but not one about uninstalling it.

There's no videos of uninstalling it because the way I mentioned is the easiest way. As stated before, you can delete the Homebrew Channel like you can to any other regular Wii channels. Also, remove anything related/used for Homebrew Channel in the SD Card to really clear out everything. (Ex: BootMii, Gecko, Riivolution, codes for games...)

There's only permanent changes to temporary files IF you installed something that changes these files. Something such as AnyRegion Changer.

If you are that bothered by files, it is possible to remove every hack, but there is an extremely high risk of bricking your Wii if you do not know what you are doing. Based on the fact that you just installed Homebrew yesterday, you probably don't have anything installed that requires this.

It is like tinkering with the WINDOWS folder. Or jailbreaking your iPhone. Or messing with the root account on linux. If you don't know what this does, then just leave it alone.

Thank you, in that case, I will go about deleting the channel soon. Thank you very much and I can now sleep at peace and paranoia free.
