Seems like the games are both a lot less stable than before (in terms of glitches and technical issues) and seemingly a bit poorly thought out in terms of new ideas and content when compared to the Wii or Gamecube era.
Look at all the 3DS games with either major glitches for instance? Or how a few other recent titles seem to have less polish than their earlier counterparts...
So yeah, is Nintendo rushing their games? Have they forgot Miyamoto's comment about a delayed game potentially being good and a bad game being bad forever?
Nope. In fact, they're doing much, much better then other developers in catching bugs. I mean, all games nowadays have a much greater potential for bugs and glitches because there's ten times if not more the amount of coding in them. That's a lot of stuff to go through for a small team of maybe a couple hundred people. When a game is released to MILLIONS of people, all playing in different ways, of course people are going to find glitches that a few hundred didn't manage to catch.
Just like the Mario Kart 7 bugs- I still say that Nintendo did NOT release a buggy game and it wasn't rushed. A lot of the cheat-bugs in the game were only accessible to players who were purposefully looking for them and doing things you shouldn't ever be doing in a proper race- like flying off the courses at odd angles you had to TRY to do (not accidental), or coming to a complete stop, turning around, and driving backwards up the course and off into the water at a very specific point. I just have a hard time feeling that game companies are responsible for finding stuff like that- besides, there are just so many situations in that game where unintentional things can happen while gliding, or going over jumps, being hit by items, bumped by players, all of that happening at the same time.... I don't feel like a small tester team has any chance in hell of finding them all. It took hundreds of thousands to millions of people playing before some of those bugs were encountered. I've played that game for HOURS and never encountered any of the glitches that people mention.
As for new ideas, we've got lots of great and fun games, so I don't really see it. I kind of wish Nintendo would stop coming up with their 'innovative' crap- they're already wrecking up Star Fox to satisfy Miyamoto's need for new, new NEW!!!! Sometimes having a great new story, and fun new graphics, and a new world to explore are all a game needs.
