Is running a self-hosted website usually an expensive hobby for most people?

I feel running a self-hosted website is not usually an expensive hobby for most people since a domain name can be as affordable as $10 to $20 a year, and web hosting is sometimes $20 or less per month. There are also a lot of free website templates, and website software like WordPress, phpBB, and MyBB.

Except for the security you don't have to worry about sharing disk space or limiting the number of concurrent connections etc!
