That isn't Mario 3D World? Cause while it's generally seen as a pretty good game, it's not quite the game every Mario fan wanted to see, with some preferring a Mario 64/Sunshine type deal with more free roaming and larger worlds.
But what do you think? Will there be a second 3D Mario game released on Wii U?
I'm sure there will be, but I'm betting they're gonna wait until some of their other big names come out before announcing it. So many Mario games releasing with a lack of other series has been one of the big complaints of the Wii U. I hope we get another Super Mario 64 style game, or Galaxy 3 at the least. I personally wasn't very fond of Sunshine, but I'd buy a sequel too it. I think it was mostly Sunshine's setting, level and music design that turned me off... I could deal with the weird shooty water backpack thing, although maybe give it a less annoying voice!
Well, yes and no. Yes it's a Mario game in that there will be Mario levels with Mario playing them, but it's not Nintendo who is making the levels. That, and it's based on 2D platforming, not 3D platforming.
I think that the chances of getting yet another 3D Mario title for the wii u is highly likely. There's a large fan base who is crying out to get a real 3D Mario pushed out, and I don't think it would bode well for Nintendo to just ignore the purely 3D demographic of their fanbase. I don't know if we're gonna get another galaxy game however. I think that if they release a new one, that it's probably gonna have a new gimmick involved. Or, if they return to a previous gimmick, I'm hoping that they go back to their roots of Super Mario 64 with one main hub and all the fun filled paintings. Who knows.?
It needs:
-the movements of Galaxy (spinning, jumping and spin-jumping, no fludd)
-the level design of Sunshine (big and mostly non-linear)
-the level size of Sunshine but bigger (at least twice as big)
-the level amount of 64 (cuz sunshine didn't have many levels)
-the variety of Galaxy (In terms of level themes, enemies, etc.)
-the ability to ride Yoshi like in Galaxy 2 (although I kinda preferred his tongue mechanic in Sunshine)
-the blue coins of Sunshine (but only 10 per level and they are available at any time. Also no cryptic shit like blue coins hidden on random walls.)
-No reused bosses!
-Only a few red coin missions!
-Tons of new enemies and bosses!
Then I think it should handle stars the way Banjo Kazooie does. So no selecting missions. You can just do every star in every order and you stay in the level once you get one.
Also I really think it could use a new villain, storyline and maybe a new art style to keep it completely fresh.
How about being able to play as Mario, Luigi, Wario (like in 64 DS), Peach (like in 3D World) and maybe even Bowser?
Maybe there's a scenario where all of them have to team up to fight a greater evil, kinda like in some of the Mario RPGs?
And lastly I think they should try to put the cape feather in as a power up and try to make it work in 3D. It could work similarly to the wing cap except you also have a more powerful spin and you can descend slowly.
So in other words, a dream game that Nintendo would likely never consider?
But hey, if you're adding something... how about powerups like 3D World (able to be brought to different areas), except with their usage being to get stars or whatever? That's the biggest innovation this series could get...
Honestly, I think that Nintendo walks a fine line between appealing to fans and doing what they do best. I'm a huge Mario fan, but the reason why I like it so much is because it's just an overall great platformer. If I wanted a game that was about taking out enemies, I'd go to metroid or zelda. If I wanted more exploration, again... I would go to either of those two. Mario is already pretty solid all around in my opinion.?
Now, if they were to add anything, or to change anything, I'd like to see more level editors like what they're doing with Mario Maker. That can only go so far though, as it would be nearly impossible for most people to create fully functional 3D levels. One other thing that they could do if they're going to stick with the 3D land/world style for a while is to make the levels span out more. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the levels in both games, but they were too short. Other than that, I'm liking what they're doing.

There's so much they can do!
I second this, although I didn't like how Banjo Kazooie handled jiggies, I prefer the way galaxy 2 did it better.
