I can't help feeling he seems a bit tall.
Also, unless he can somehow extend his lifespan (maybe something to do with being in the temple of light), then he seems too old already. Skyward Sword can't be set just 20-30 years before Ocarina of Time.

That and Kaepora Gaebora came in to mind the first time I saw him in the trailer. If as stated by the Gossip Stones, Kaepora Gaebora is the reincarnation of an ancient Sage. We might be seeing a first glimpse of such mysteries finally being solved.

Could be a kind of ghost. The other sages are all kinda 'dead', yet look their normal age after losing to the bosses in their respective dungeons. Then again, Rauru was apparently stuck with Link for seven years.

You're not thinking of the Wind and Earth sages in Wind Waker, are you?
Because the sages in Ocarina of Time (with the possible exception of Rauru) are not dead whichever way you cut it.
Well, Darunia fights Volvagia and probably loses before you get there, and the others... disappear after they enter the temples.
I think Nabooru was brainwashed to become an Iron Knuckle mini boss and then wasn't heard from until the chamber of sages...
So isn't it reasonable to think they didn't survive if lo and behold, they vanish during their temples and only reappear in the 'Temple of Light' or whatever.
Well i've never found anyone else who thinks that way, and they seem pretty alive in the end credits. Also, in the Temple of Light after Ruto gives Link the Water Medallion, she asks him to thank Sheik for saving her if he sees 'him' again. That would be a pretty redundant thing to ask if Ruto had died, and thus Sheik had not actually saved her after all.
Certainly there's far from being any conclusive evidence that any of them are dead, even Rauru.
