I feel more people will consider buying Indie games which cost less or offer more levels for the same price because many people cant afford or don't want to buy a $80 game.

I know people will bitch and moan, because it’s easy to do. Especially if it’s a game you’re not interested in. Then one you’re really interested in comes out, you’ll buy it without a second thought. Remember when it seemed like “everyone” was boycotting Epic Games? Yeah, that went nowhere and the bitching died down.

Calling it now, you guys will be buying the $80-90 Switch 2 games and talking about how much fun you’re having.

I don't get how people fund AAA games that would cost this much. It's backwards logic. Serve the people or go broke.

I'm kind of surprised it took this long for the AAA game balloon to pop.

This is the end fate of gaming, game sales will say for sure what happens.

People have been saying that for years. It’s fun seeing old forum/reddit threads from 10+ years ago saying “AAA games are dying within the next year”.

Like a lot of protests online, it’s easy to protest until it inconveniences you, and then they drop it.

“Fuck Nintendo with their $90 game and… oh wait new Smash Bros? Shut up and take my money”.

I'm curious how the next Smash Bros will fare without Masahiro Sakurai.

I just find it funny that people are boycotting Nintendo over 80 dollar games when Sony JUST put out ANOTHER Last of Us re-release collection and charged people $100 for it.

Indie games will ultimately benefit the end user, especially with lower prices and, in some cases, better gameplay. If the industry spirals into a trend where games keep costing more, it could trigger a shift where companies like Microsoft, Nintendo, and others are forced to lower their prices again.

That’s just the power of the market. If players refuse to pay $80 for a game, that’s perfectly valid. That’s part of why indie games are such a great option: they’re often cheaper and still deliver solid, quality gameplay.

Will we see a decline in the AAA games market? Only time will tell. Players are frustrated, which is understandably so. The economy is a mess, prices are rising across the board. Not everyone can afford to spend $80 or $100 on a single game. Some will still buy them, some won’t. We’ll see what happens when those big titles actually launch and the sales numbers come in.

But honestly, $80–$100 games are probably the future when it comes to major publishers. That’s why now’s the perfect time for indie games to rise and really make their mark.
