I'm surprised I didn't think of it sooner, but is the hat thing in the StreetPlaza an intended joke by Nintendo making fun of Valve with their enormously large library of hats within Team Fortress 2?
Normally Nintendo and Valve have no relation to each other. That's why I can't decide if it was a joke or just something Nintendo made to make streetpass more interesting.
