A Florida jury sided today with wrestling star Hulk Hogan (real name Terry Bolea) in his lawsuit against Gawker.

Hogan was awarded $115 million — $55 million for economic injuries and $60 million for emotional distress. That’s even more than the $100 million that Hogan was seeking, and the jury’s scheduled to return Monday to deal with punitive damages on top of that.

Gawker founder Nick Denton and former editor Albert J. Daulerio were found personally liable, as well.

The lawsuit centered on a sex tape between Hogan and the wife of his then-best friend, radio DJ Bubba the Love Sponge, which Gawker published in 2012. Gawker argued that its decision to publish was protected under the First Amendment and that Hogan had made his sex life a matter of public discussion. Hogan countered that the video was not newsworthy, and that there’s a distinction between Hulk Hogan the character and Terry Bollea the man — and it was Bollea’s privacy that Gawker allegedly violated.

For those of you who didn't know, Gawker is the company that owns Kotaku.

Given how much Kotaku seems to hate their audience (I still remember someone there saying 'bring back bullying' after the GamerGate scandal broke out), all I can say is:

Or maybe:

Another person buried by the Hulkster!

Eh, everyone in the situation is terrible in one way or another, but I'm glad that they ruled this way.

I don't know if this will put Gawker out of business. Gawker CEO, Nick Denton, has previously said there was a 1 in 10 chance that he would have to sell a controlling stake in Gawker in order to keep it afloat after a verdict, according to New York Times.

how much is the company worth?

I wonder what will Hulk Hogan do with the $115 million dollars. I think Hulk Hogan is already very rich from being a wrestler, and appearing on Reality TV.

actually his divorce years ago and other family mistakes pretty much ran him into bankruptcy. This lawsuit is going to bring him back up to money status.

Anyways, here is a good full break down of this case:

I read online that Hulk Hogan still get royalty payments from old wresting videos/movies, wrestling video games he starred in, and other things he was in,, so he was probably still richer than most people in America even when he lost most of the money from his divorce, and family mistakes.

He also had enough money to start a lawsuit against Gawker.

He will probably retire and live the rest of his years in luxury...

I agree he will probably live the rest of his life in luxury.

But, he will mostly continue to work as an entertainer like actor, TV show host, and radio interviews.

Hulk Hogan does not seem like the type of person who will retire because he is rich. Hulk Hogan has been working hard in wrestling, TV shows, radio, video games, music and other types of entertainment industries. I think Hulk Hogan enjoys entertaining people since he has been working for so long, and would probably not want to retire because he got rich.

According to his Wikipedia page at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hulk_Hogan , Hulk Hogan has work as an actor, TV, and other media industries in the past few years.

I'm just hoping the WWE isn't quick to snatch him back up.

I read on a Entertainment blog that Hulk Hogan said the N-Word on a video which made his partnership with the WWE over, so it is unlikely Hulk Hogan will return to the WWE. The WWE has a lot of fans who are African, and some wrestlers are also African, so having Hulk on the WWE is unlikely because of him offending people with the N-word.

I'm glad that he won. kotaku has been pretty bad in the last few years and they showed no signs of ever changing. (While it's true they did do some good work, the fact is that it was well overshadowed by all the times they let agenda driven crap make it way through.)

Offhand I think they're going to try to appeal, but whether or not that'll happen is hard to say. I hope they don't bother, I hope they just give up and fade away into oblivion.

I wonder if this lawsuit news will suddenly bring a lot of traffic to Gawker's websites which probably makes most of its money from banner ads, sponsored/paid posts, and posting Deals from Amazon, and other shopping sites which pay a 4-10% earnings of each item which a website help sell from a sales link which a website posted.

If Gawker gets many millions to billions of new visitors from curious visitors who learned about this Gawker lawsuit from the News, Gawker could make a lot of money from advertisements like how Facebook, and Google makes billions of dollars per years from advertisements because they have billions of visitors each year.

I also think curious visitors who are not fans of Gawker are more likely to click on ads because they may be less interested in reading Gawker's article, so they click interesting looking video games, car, and fashion ads to go to another website which maybe more interesting than Gawker.

This verdict wasn't surprising considering the fact that it came down after the Erin Andrews verdict did.

That case made me all the more appreciative of the fact that my husband sweeps the hotel room we stay in before we get comfortable..

She may have been chosen due to her popularity, and the case got notoriety because of it, but there have been many cases involving civilians that didn't.

Even though Hogan is a scum bag, I am glad they ruled in his favor on this.

Now what is to stop some other broke celeb from leaking their sex tape and then claiming it was stolen so they can sue for money?
