"Let's find out how long it takes to select and watch our favorite Netflix movie using Kinect instead of the Xbox 360 controller!" That was the simple metric we wanted to try to test the new Kinect support in the Xbox version of Netflix. I suspected that it'd take a little bit longer to use Kinect's motion controls, but that it'd be worth the extra time to forgo the controller entirely.

I didn't suspect the time difference would be infinity.

That's because the only movies you can watch with Netflix Kinect are those offered by Netflix's automated "Suggestions for you" engine. That means you can't use Kinect as a replacement for a controller to watch what you want to watch. In fact, once you get past the dozen or movies the Kinect interface suggests, it actually admonishes "For more choices and search, use your controller".

I wonder how this Kinect problem will affect NetFlix Canada since the selection for NetFlix Canada is not very great compared to the US version of NetFlix.

I don't use Netflix since I rather just buy DVD copies of movies I like, or watch it when ever it is released on cable television.

I don't think this is a big deal. Netflix only gives you recommendations and the search feature. Even if you are using the controller that's all the options you have. It does kind of suck that you can't use the search feature with the Kinect but I'm sure that will be changed later. I don't think it's a catastrophe though. :P

I don't have a 360/Kinect or Netflix for that matter either. But I still find it strange that users can't use the Kinect for the whole Netflix interface. Did the people coding it decide that halfway through they were bored and wanted to just watch a movie instead of finishing the project? (Why only the suggestions part too? It couldn't have been that much extra work to finish it?) It doesn't make sense to me... Why not take advantage of the Kinect's microphone to let users just tell Netflix to "Search for The Dark Knight" or whatever since it supports voice to text doesn't it?

Lol that sucks. Not that i'd be bothered. Its easier to use the control for me because i watch most of my movies in bed and waving my arms around in the middle of the night and early hours in the morning is not something i would like to do lol.
