Earlier this morning, Xbox LIVE was ever-so-slightly down as Xbox 360 gamers everywhere diligently attempted to hop into the Battlefield 3 beta, download the Forza 4 demo, or simply do anything else that would require them to be signed into the service.
Xbox LIVE has since been restored, and Microsoft has taken to their blogs to explain what happened. What force could topple the mighty network and render millions of users without access? Turns out, just a little bit of the ol' human error.
"The root cause of this outage was human error," said Microsoft's Eric Neustadter in a blog post. "A change resulted in an interruption to normal traffic flow within our datacenters, which logged users out and prevented them from logging back in. We're sorry for this, and we'll be updating our processes to prevent this from happening again in the future."
However inconvenient the outage was, it was fortunately short-lived, and all systems are go for Xbox LIVE.
