On September 1 at approximately 8:00pm, 27-year-old Makoto Sekiguchi from Yokohama uploaded images of unrevealed characters in the new Pokémon game Pocket Monsters: Black & White via his mobile phone. He is now in police custody.

According to 47 News (via ANN), Sekiguchi uploaded six images of unseen Pokémon, such as Chaoboo. The characters appear in Pokémon: Black & White, which was released in Japan on September 18. The characters did appear in the October issue of Japanese magazine CoroCoro Comic and were leaked before its September 15 ship date.

In a deposition, Sekiguchi stated, "Thought I would show everyone the characters that haven't been made public yet." Sekiguchi is charged with violating copyright infringement.

The Chikusei City police discovered the pictures while on "cyber patrol" (surfing the internet?) and are not attempting to pin down how Sekiguchi came in possession of them.

In Japan, it is incredibly common for magazine pages to leak online before they go on sale. Take, for example, game magazine Famitsu; it pops up online before it hits newsstands, and countless images are posted on the internet.

I wonder what his punishment will be?
